We win the SS 3 times with 2 different coaches in 5 years but get knocked out in quest for the cup. Bob Bradley was a great coach for metro , Chicago and now LAFC. Their regular season was one of the best ever and could be compared to 1998 NY Yankees with the exception that they flopped in conference final. So is it a curse on the organization or just bad luck in playoffs?

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Bruce Arena did OK since leaving here. Lot of players won the Cup as well: Petke, Mathis, Magee, Clark, Davis, Gaven... No need to go on.

Need luck and a good squad. We never had both happen to us at the same time. Basically as simple as that
Or a mediocre squad and a whole lot of luck. That was the formula that got us the closest.

A good team.
Big game player(s).
Good coach.
Edit: Not BAD luck.
All 4 have never happened in the playoffs.

Arguably can get away with only 3 of the 4 to go all the way, e.g with neutral luck or roster quality not necessarily needing a genius coach (TFC, ATL).Need:
A good team.
Big game player(s).
Good coach.
Luck.
All 4 have never happened in the playoffs.
Most we've had in the past 10 years is 2 at the same time.

Bob isn't "cursed". Won the MLSCup-USOC double in his 1st yr. It's Sarachan, iirc who coached CHI to USOC-Shield double in '04(?) but lost to SJ in the Final.

Well I didnt say genius. I just said good.
Just like you dont need a great team, but if you tick all the other boxes youre good to go.

Probably need a little bit of both to be honest.
A good team needs good players, but also need a good coach to motivate and make tactical changes/lineups. I think players maybe slightly more important, but coaching is still very important.

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.
