#1377461 Cameron Harper from Celtic?

Posted by defendyourself on Yesterday, 09:59 AM

Good shout. Unfortunately he's stopped shooting the ball or passing it anywhere but sideways and back, so somewhat irrelevant...

i really hope Gerhard can undo the sideways passing mentality Davis picked up last two season.  He used to really progress the ball forward when he first came up.

besides davis Royer is the only other person i think has a decent weak foot.

usually in the skinny diamonds one of the forwards is responsible for making runs that drag defenders into the wide channels for the other forward and CAM to fill in.  So in some ways Harper may be ideal for that role with his winger background.  Like this move a lot.

#1377290 Will (when) we sign new players?

Posted by defendyourself on 14 January 2021 - 10:15 AM

We have barely ever made an international signing before the end of January in the history of the club, I'm willing to tack a few weeks on to that before I start getting antsy.

The situation you laid out is true if we're trying to pry a starter from a club that doesn't want to give them up. Should be plenty of MLS quality guys out there that are either fringe players on more competitive teams, or not in the other team's plans for one reason or another.

The last transfer we made that i was very excited for was announced in December when Huracan announced Kaku it was just working out agent stuff that delayed it but they were able to plan for him being gone. that said i am not expecting anything until last week of Jan / Feb.  but a mid Feb transfer unless season is delayed will be unfortunate if the players have to quarantine, do visa stuff before coming over and then the "Red Bull integration period".

I want a Kaku level player.

its really hard to get players who are starting or rotational starters at their clubs after end of Jan because most teams would want to get a replacement.  While we for sure will get some Yearwood situation guys, ideally want one DP who's coming from a situation where they are playing some.  So in my book Thelwell has two weeks before i start getting pissed.

#1377266 ARMAS GONE!

Posted by defendyourself on 13 January 2021 - 07:30 PM

i do think there is a chance Armas may be better implementing a non pressing system, because he seemed to be focused with us on redefining what we did with the ball.  But we didnt have the horses for that approach.  But more likely this hire benefits us in the standings lol

imagine paying up for a forward so bad on paper that we'd probably all start Barlow over him to start lol

Trying to figure out who this is but we have our first Swedish account saying that Sead offer was from us.

best part is a Swedish person in the comments per google translation said "NY are not directly known for putting large transfer sums, are they? Why would Norrköping want to sell?"  Everyone knows we've been cheap lol.

One post-season goal does not make him clutch.

he did clinch us the shield...

#1376462 Jorgensen loaned out to some Danish club

Posted by defendyourself on 17 December 2020 - 01:45 PM

Thanks, if I read this correctly, this would save us a few bucks in GAM indeed. This is 6 months loan, and you'd better believe Metro will still be paying large part of Jorgey's salary. So, it's no where near 500K as Defend claimed. Don't know the exact number, but it cannot be that high. Like I said, saving a few bucks. Which is fine by me, just didn't want to lose Stroud over it.

very good chance its that high.

$170k international slot

- loan savings is anywhere from his salary to salary plus transfer fee.  Jorgy made 306,250.04 last year.  I was using expected values here but the "~" is also to approximate

- if Jorgy is sold at end of the loan the second half of the salary is off the books even if its a free transfer ~($150k)

- We bought him supposedly for $2.5mm so if we took a 80% hit on that its still ~$500k

- If they cover half his salary during the loan its another ~$75k

So its reasonably anywhere from $170k - $895k using what i think are pretty conservative assumptions.  He's still getting Danish youth team call ups so he's for sure valued there.  Personally I'd be stunned if we were covering all of his salary but gave them an option to buy as thats extremely unusual.

If Stroud was a big priority he would have been protected. Hes going to get a pay raise as well because Austin has to offer him a senior contract.

also the fact that we monetized a 4th round draft pick is a good thing.  Plus given our pipeline/roster hes the easiest likely selection (Meara/Stroud/Tarek) to replace.

Pretending that AGF would wait 10 days to complete a transfer instead of looking at their other transfer alternatives is a silly proposition.  We freed up an international slot and $300k of cap space by the loan on top of any potential fee.  And those slots for a year are worth $170k.   Keeping Stroud isnt worth risking ~$500k of GAM/cap value for someone we know isnt good enough here.  This is real life not Football Manager

#1376401 Austin Expansion Draft

Posted by defendyourself on 16 December 2020 - 11:13 AM

Protecting Jorgensen makes some sense because they think he's actually worth something on the transfer market. That's a surprise to me personally given his failure to do anything of note here, but apparently Danish soccer circles still put some stock into him.

yeah its a no brainer to protect him.  the purchase option for him is worth more that Stroud on the global market.  We are always going to lose someone in an expansion draft given our USL integration.  We always have low salaried talent available to be picked off.  Its just a matter of who goes.

#1376291 Synergy signings?

Posted by defendyourself on 14 December 2020 - 08:46 PM

This has been floating around on twitter. It's in German.

https://twitter.com/...567784750526466

It's possible that we will have some synergy signings. As long as they can contribute and are regulars in the gameday 18, I'm fine with it.

yeah exactly, dont care where are signings come from as long as they are good.  Ideally someone who is closer to Salzburg squad versus someone thats chronically on loan and clearly not at the right level.
