So I don't have a clue what this guy does but you know exactly enough to deem Hamlett redundant. Got it. Enjoy 8th grade social studies this afternoon! Make sure to get off at the right bus stop and do your homework before mom makes dinner!

Ouch! You zinged me hard there!

As long as one person has final say, i dont think its the end of the world.

The sporting director needs to find talent for rbny, rbny2, youth academy, recruit youth, scout players, advocate for redbull to give more $$ and travel to europe to meet with the boss.

As Head of Sport, Thelwell will have oversight on all aspects of the sporting side of the club. Sporting Director Denis Hamlett will remain in charge of day-to-day soccer operations and report to Thelwell.

Wow this is great!

I'd say Wolves rise up the leagues last few seasons has more to do with Mendes using them for his players, but still getting Hamlet a boss is great. Hope he gets fired by next winter after new guy takes over.

Wolves’ managing director, Laurie Dalrymple, acknowledged that Mendes was a “known associate” and friend of the club’s Chinese owner.

Just checked Wolves twitter and everyone seems really happy he is going, so that could mean a lot of things.

Overall this seems a positive for us!

Happy that he's going and won't be involved with their team anymore, or just straight up happy that he has a new opportunity?

Why now? Why not the day after Metro was eliminated in October so we had a full offseason to work this new "head of sport"

Idk hard to tell but seems they're just happy hes off...

Only 1/2 good lucks.

Seems they were pissed at his lack of activity in Jan window, so probably just spoiled fans. He must have done a decent job but again the Mendes links brought them most of their good players, so idk. My overall happiness is bc hamlett is so useless id take about anyone else and working in the PL must have good links in the game.

Allow me to be more specific here. I'm not saying this is the ideal plan. But if this was Let's Make a Deal and I could either have, "6-12 month transfer semi-embargo while the new guy evaluates the whole organization followed by meaningful changes on and off the field for 2021 and beyond" or I can chose a Mystery Plan behind Door #3, I'm immediately screaming that I choose first option and running the fuck away before they can take it away from me.

sure, but I don't see that as the choice. There's door #2.  There are without a doubt improvements that can be made here quickly, that don't require 6-12 months of review and analysis, and also don't tie our hands from making big moves this summer and next year. MLS is not like the NBA or NFL where rebuilding years are required due to draft dependency. We have a global talent pool to draw from and all sorts of salary cap and contract flexibility. These Sporting Director guys are paid the big bucks for their ability to do that.

Because life is complicated and cooperation requires multiple acting parties? Do you really think they had everything worked out in November with the guy ready to take the next flight over and Red Bull said, "no, let's have you wait until February for no reason except it will be funny"?

What the hell is in the water these days?

I would like to think this is great news, but Ham Sandwich is still here. And so is Armas. And Im not okay with that.

IMO there was really very little justification in firing Petke (it worked out, but still). There is very real justification in letting go of both Chris and Denis, but were bringing this guy here in an oversight capacity?

This organization is all over the map.

Not all over the map. Its just an issue with timing. This is great news and explains the super unusual off season we just witnessed.

1. Hamlett was clearly the care taker until someone qualified was able to take the role.
- appears his job was to dismantle the roster, not add significant peices.

2. The talk of lopes and cosgrove was all PR to fake that NYRB was interested in competing for fans. Gotta assume interview and negotiation lasted months, so no way would hamlett be allowed to spend millions and bring in players that could potentially not fit the new guys vision.

3. Hamlett is the operational guy. AKA non decision maker. He will just push papers, if he stays. He goes into the background, and we will never hear from him again.

4. Armas is out. If this guy is half as smart as we think he is, it will be clear that Armas is not a good coach. No way this guy with Prem experience is going to see armas as class.. Armas is toast...
