There is a deft way for a coach to handle benching a Captain. You say something like, Seans an important part of our team and still our Captain. Hes struggling a little on the pitch right now, so were going to give him a few games off and get back to his normal self. Hes still an important leader for our squad and we fully expect him to see playing time soon.

Armas probably isnt capable of that though.

The fact we are going through scenarios where we are benching our captain speaks volumes.

Im holding out hope he steps up, and this potentially terrible season doesnt all fall on him. Hes a good kid.
Does not need to be the martyr for RBG and Armas antics.

Thought Sean had his best game in a long time today. Maybe he felt the weight of the armband and picked it up a notch. If he keeps this up then we can forget about benching him since it'll be a moot point

Sean played well today. But then again the problem is not so much Sean as it is Armas and hamlet who almost dropped points in our home opener.

get drunk and support him

A practical approach. 🍺

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Say what you want, but he definitely has the right mindset to be Captain.

While he is not the most talented player on the team, he certainly seems like the best and most intelligent leader.

iirc, he was on the "Leadership Council" in '17(?).

Lets also not forget that Sean Davis is still the captain.

He does not generate offense, nor is a lockdown defender.

Maybe has some fancy footwork:  https://www.newyorkr...r?autoplay=true

This is why we can complain about not having a striker.

if Casseres is good Davis is part of the solution to having a good midfield.  Just because he doesnt partner well with Rza does not make him a bad player.  Rza is awkward because hes a good player but a tweener between a 10 and an 8.  doesnt have the tactically discipline/feel or (athleticism to make up for it) to play as an elite 8 but he isnt creative enough to be a 10.

In our system when the midifield isnt connected we look really bad and for being left on an island a lot Sean wasnt that bad last year.  He can play better and hopefully this year he does.

It's not that Sean Davis is the problem, it's that he's the physical manifestation of the clubs inability to bring in quality players.  He's in the spot vacated by Tyler Adams.  Big shoes that needed to be filled by a big player, not the guy rode the bench all the way to the arm band.

I have nothing against Davis, but he's not a starter on any team that has a chance at lifting the cup.
