#1338178 Parker signs new deal

Posted by Komba on 13 December 2018 - 10:28 AM

I'd keep Murillo and slot him at RM instead of Muyl

I'd actually posted about that idea a while back with Murillo too because the guy is just so damn good on the ball.  Clearly his passion is offense too.  Not sure he works hard enough for that spot, but I'd definitely be on board with it.

And as VoR said, I don't necessarily disagree with that.  1 on 1 defending you can tell he cares more and is interested in that.  But positioning to deny passes and and fight level isn't always very good at all.  Don't know if it's mentality with him or just that it's not natural to him.

Also should say that the news of Parker being re-signed is great...  Dude is a beast.  Hopefully now that he has his deal, he'll maintain that effort level.  I think he's actually more important than Long but Long is also great.  They compliment eachother very well.  As long as we keep Parker, Long, and Taxi together we'll be in a great spot.  Then it's all about finding enough goals.

#1338174 Amro Tarek

This is an interesting pickup.  The cost was zero and he's cheaper.  Our new assistant coach CJ Brown basically picked him up for Orlando and now had to have a voice in bringing him here.  There's a lot to like athletically from what I see in videos.  Have to see more of him throughout games to figure out if he can make the right reads.  Most important quality of a centerback in my opinion is reading plays and being able to shut them down before they start.  Athletiism and speed mean more in our system because they will be caught out on an island at times but Tarek has that.  I hated Redding from the first game I seen him, he wasn't very athletic AND he couldn't read play.  Hopefully this dude is better than that.  3rd defnder means a lot.  He's going to get minutes for us.  Hopefully not too many.

Biggest thing about that Right attacking mid spot is that we get some real speed and athleticism.  Royer isn't particularly fast.  BWP isn't either.  We need speed higher up the field.

Someone like Etienne is fast, but he's one of the slowest fast guys out there.  Almost reminds me of Carmelo Anthony sometimes.  Ball gets to him and the play stops or slows down big time.  The decision on what to do is rarely immediate and it gives defensive players a ton of time to get into position.

Big fan of Allesandrini but we need a soldier over there.  An extremely mobile, tireless player.  Those two wing spots are the toughest to play in this formation physically so we basically need a Muyl with more skill.

they were clearly outcoached. after owning ATL for 2 yrs in the reg season, they got us when it mattered most. and they celebrated on our field. ugh.

the rolling around after a light foul is basic dark arts. the stuff that made me love Felipe. i think we lacked that this yr.

I'd rather not have that stuff.  I don't mind agitators but I do hate diving.

We've never (in recent history) been heading into a game like this. Every time we go into a playoff game at home, the pressure is on. Everyone is nervous. And we can never get it done. This is different. WE are the ones with nothing to lose. No Pressure at all, just go out and play. IF we can get 2 goals, then we have ALL the momentum, at home, and the pressure is 100% on Atlanta.

Always feel like the first goal is the toughest to get.  Once that happens, then things become very possible with the way momentum works. Just really hoping we could pull it off.

Why? I don't understand. This team talks so much about having an identity, playing  a certain way. Being the best version of themselves. (remember - even a healthy Kaku didn't start CCL b/c he "didn't know the system well enough") Our tactics have worked all year, ESPECIALLY against this Atlanta side. Why completely change tactics in the biggest game of the season?

Exactly... And again, I love Taxi but even he's not enough to change everything we do.  It was just stupid.  You're asking guys to to play a style that they've never played.

The whole point of this team is that pressing, aggressive identity.  To go against it entirely makes no sense.  Now, if we were decimated by injuries then I can buy into it.  But Lade has played before and he's done a good job.  He's not Taxi but he's capable of putting in a good game.    Just a really crazy decision.  Live and die by what you do best.

Something else, if Taxi didn't play that game but is able to play 4 days later then I have a problem with what the coaching staff and med staff decided as well.  This stage in the year, all freaking hands on deck save a limb falling off.  THere is no long term concern anymore.   With no Taxi in such a monster game, I automatically assumed that he wouldn't be able to play Thursday.  Now I read Armas saying him playing is a possibility.

Bleh... Either way we it has to be 1-0 for us by halftime.  It's going to take a miracle but it's not impossible if the momentum gets started going the right way.

To be honest, I'm OK with Kaku.  He's still getting in good positions and I absolutely LOVE his first intention to get the ball forward in the best spot possible.  I just happen to think he's been missing his passes more often than he will in the future.  There were a couple of positions where he tried a difficult pass and barely missed it, but he won't miss them forever.

Really proud of the guys. Can't say I expected that last night.  They came to play from the moment it started and it was clear.

Really interesting move with playing Tyler farther up.  Almost looked like we were in a 4-1-4-1 at times.  Tyler just has such great speed and such an engine that he can be in both spots.  Those have always been his best qualities.

Great from Royer. Just fully healthy, and he's always been a streaky player.  If this is one of his good streaks, he can really add big things to the team.

Crowd was awesome.  Everyone understood the importance and how important the crowd would be too.

#1335552 Metro - Columbus Playoff Thread

We haven't been scoring goals lately.  So much of the 2nd half of the regular season has been 1-0 games and when you throw in the jinx part, that's tough to live with in the playoffs. As for the game, we got the bad version of Muyl and even Etienne.  Murillo was brutal on his crosses but that's not usual for him.  Just gonna chalk it up as an off day for him.

Hard to be optimistic here.  But that said, if we are ever going to win this damn thing, we were going to have to slay this dragon eventually.  We always lose in this situation, so the year we are going to win it all, we have to be able to break through in the situation where we always fail.

C-Bus can't score... They score and we are dead.  We don't have the fire power for that many goals in a playoff environment where goals are tougher to come by.  That said, C-Bus will be sitting back.

Going by our history, it's hard not to predict Columbus scoring 1 early, us somehow getting 2 goals late but it not being enough.

For what it's worth, I'm happy Martino is leaving Atlanta.  With the players knowing he's leaving, it may be enough to lower the commitment level and make them more beatable.  Not so much for SS, but for the playoffs.  Still the team I fear most.  LAG would be tough in any playoff game because Zlatan can go total God mode, but I think Petke and RSL may keep them out now.

#1334320 What is Muyl good at?

Posted by Komba on 12 October 2018 - 08:13 AM

Here are Alex minutes by game under Marsch in 2018:

0, 0, 90, 0, 3, 0, 3, 19, 23, 1, 17, 8, 89, 90, 26, 60

And, hi minutes by game under Armas:

90, 59, 13, 81, 21, 25, 20, 63, 1, 19, 76, 23, 25, 25, 79, 76

His minutes since Armas look more consistent to me... Alex was an unused sub four times under Marsch.  The first two are explainable because they bookended CCL matches, but the next two cam after Muyl played very well against Minn U and were part of a four game stretch in which he played no more than three minutes.

Since Armas has been manager, Muyl has only played less than 13 minutes in a match one time and that was part of the five games in 15 days stretch.

I'm not saying Marsch didn't play Alex, of course he did.  I was one of the loudest saying he was playing too much.  My only point was that once he lost his spot to Valot, he wasn't always getting the 15-20 minutes sub appearances Armas was giving him when RZA started a few games over him.

And, regarding my comment about position, I was referring more to Etienne there.

Alex and DE are both playing better now than either has did with Marsch.  Call it what you, I probe to give Armas credit as I think he's dealt with players more in a more even manner.  I think Marsch was more feast or famine - you are my starter and will play 80+ minutes most matches or you're not, and maybe I'll get you in.

2 things... Why are we going to ignore minutes that Muyl has gotten in previous years?

Secondly, Valot?  If Marsch was here, Muyl's minutes would have seen a guaranteed increase after the Valot injury.

#1334292 What is Muyl good at?

Posted by Komba on 11 October 2018 - 11:23 AM

So two young players in Etienne and Muyl, both start playing better under Armas, AFTER Armas gives them consistent minutes off the bench, in positions that match their skill sets, building their confidence, and you think the way Armas has handled them (the role he has given) has nothing to do with that improvement. Ok...

Muyl didn't get consistent minutes in the exact same position he's playing now?

OK...

#1334246 What is Muyl good at?

Posted by Komba on 09 October 2018 - 09:12 AM

People hated Muyl and didn't want him on the field under any circumstance.  Myself included.  Had nothing to do with role.

But even outside of the last month, he's my preference to have on the field.  The chart that showed how many chances he creates for the team (even though the same chart showed he screwed up a ton) was my wake-up call. Someone who's creating that many chances should be playing.

Valot was still best case scenario, but Muyl should be on the field

#1333916 Kemar re-signed

Posted by Komba on 01 October 2018 - 11:50 AM

Love Kemar to bits but man it seems like he goes down with a knock in every game and I immediately jump up and gasp "oh no!" Nothing to fear though, this is a player who gives it his all every game so this is to be expected but he gets me every time!

Yes, very much so.  I've just chalked it up now to him being one of those players.   And no problem with it either as long as he keeps getting up.
