#1376785 Kaku out?

Posted by Arsenal14 on 28 December 2020 - 02:58 PM

I'm ignorant of this, but is a sell on clause only triggered if transfer is a larger dollar amount than what was sold prior? Is it 20% of money above 6MM? 20% of total just seems so high.

Can be either.  Some transfers have a percentage of profit clause, some have a percentage of total fee clause, some have a percentage over a set fee (so like, 30% of anything over $5 million).

What Kaku's specific language is, we'll probably never know.

#1376723 Juventus to poach Clark?

Posted by Arsenal14 on 24 December 2020 - 01:03 PM

And theres no way RB sends their planned golden boy to Juventus before he can even make an impact on RBL. This is a non story

They sold Haland to Dortmund from Salzburg.

Clark can't move to a foreign club until he's 18, and he turns 18 in May.  This is a non-story until the summer window.

And he scores lmao

Tidy finish, too.

#1376112 Debating Brian White's quality

Posted by Arsenal14 on 12 December 2020 - 12:44 PM

If I was building a team I am not going for a Center Foward that can only score 5 goals a season...

Saying that implies that he played the vast majority of the team's minutes and only scored 5.

This isn't like Jozy at Sunderland, scoring a goal every 1,200 minutes.  White averages a goal every 166 minutes for the first team, and he scored one every 149 minutes this season.

Like, if you don't think he's good enough, say that and back it up, but don't bullshit some stats to try to make your point.

is it 100% that there is ET? i thought MLS changed the rules so that it goes straight to PKs (but i'm having trouble finding a definitive answer one way or the other)

https://www.mlssocce...and-regulations

Ctrl+f "format"

Under Round One, which is where we enter:

"If the match is tied through 90 minutes of regulation, two 15-minute extra time periods will be played in their entirety. Should the score remain tied after the extra time periods, both teams will take five kicks from the penalty mark (and continuing into sudden death kicks from the penalty mark) until a winner has been determined. There is no longer an away goals tiebreaker."

The play-in round doesn't have that language, oddly, so the tiebreak scenarios for that round are still ambiguous.  I assume they'll do the same as the rest of the playoffs, but it's unclear.

For our purposes though, all of our playoff matches would go to extra time and penalties if necessary.

#1374598 Miazga rejects extension

Posted by Arsenal14 on 11 November 2020 - 06:29 PM

We do not know that.
Does Miazga himself have an opinion?
Is any MLS development system better than those of the big European clubs?

No shit we don't know that.  It's my strongly-held opinion, based on what I've already said.  Try to keep up, jfc.

For what it's worth, Miazga has a lower rating in FIFA than Murillo and Lawrence. Something tells me he should have stayed.

I will argue to the death that Miazga needed to stay another year.

But he got paid with that oligarch money, so good for him.

Thank god we dont have to watch on TUDN. I hate their English broadcast.

I still don't understand why anyone listens to those broadcasts in English.  Like, I don't know a word of Spanish beyond the absolute basics, and I never ever watch those broadcasts in anything other than Spanish.  They're fucking terrible in English.  You could mic me up in my living room after 6 beers and I would do a better job.

If I ever hear Ramses Sandoval refer to the field as "the green rectangle" again, I'd consider casting myself off a bridge.

#1374361 Gerhard Struber no longer a rumour

When is he finally getting to work with the team?

60-90 days

#1373822 Some people like listening to Shep

Posted by Arsenal14 on 26 October 2020 - 10:33 AM

i was watching a game awhile back with my mom and they shared that tidbit about Zardes on air. To this day, whenever a game is on and she sees a dude with bleached hair, she'll ask me if that's "the guy who bleached his hair so his grandma could see him on tv"

It's a great anecdote for casual fans because it's cute and easy to remember.

I had a Europa League game on the other day though, and any time a player came up for the first time, the announcer ran through their playing history from start to finish, it seemed.  That's just filling the air.

On Shep and Steve, I genuinely think that they're the best local broadcast team in the league.  I do a lot of media criticism, so I'm trying to look at this through an unbiased lens, but I think that's still the correct outcome.  Shep definitely takes some getting used to, but Steve is genuinely a great PbP guy.  There's a reason he gets picked up by the national networks for the occasional game and the New England bozos (to pick one example) never do.

Brian White scores after Barlow doesn't even get a shot off on the definition of an open goal.

If that doesn't sum literally everything about this season up, I've got nothing else for you.

Just 1. White, Tetteh and Jorgensen combined have 7 shots on goal... BWP has 8 goals.

I get this, but if BWP was here, he'd be equally useless.

I'm happy for him that he was afforded the opportunity to leave here and have another good year or two.

#1373606 Shield will NOW be awarded this year

Posted by Arsenal14 on 21 October 2020 - 02:58 PM

Well, I did a web search, and found nothing.

Seems like you did a lousy search then.

"2001 supporters shield mls" pulls up this as the 3rd result:

http://supportersshi...rg/the-history/

Note the URL.

"There were hiccups, most notably when the Miami Fusion won in 2001, took the Shield home, and then promptly held the Shield ransom in protest of their teams dissolution. They claimed to have put it in a vault in the Caymans, but it made its way back in time to be presented the next year."

Anyone with a passing familiarity of league history would know that 2001 ended abruptly because of 9/11, and anyone with any curiosity might check those standings to see if everyone ended up with the same number of games played.

#1373575 Current Roster - Start, Bench, Move (cut, trade, sell, or demote) in 2021

Posted by Arsenal14 on 20 October 2020 - 03:03 PM

Yearwood came from the 2nd/3rd division of English football, Egbo from the 2. Bundesliga, Pendant from Ligue 2, I wouldnt be surprised if more transfers in the near future fit a similar profile unless there is a specific player Struber wants to try and bring in.

BWP and Rodgers from League One, Lloyd Sam from the Championship (but fresh from a League One loan), Royer from the Danish league, Perrinelle from Ligue 2, Grella from some unholy NASL/Danish second tier combo.

We have a surprisingly decent track record of player signings from that level of play.  Now it's just a matter of meshing that with Red Bull Global's insane success rate with youth signings and putting together a team capable of competing of MLS.
