Shield guarantees home field advantage the whole way in the playoffs and that's enough reason for me to always want them to win it.

We just need to finish better than every team in the West, which we should. Home field advantage in the home-and-away series leading up to MLS Cup isnt much, given both teams get a home match.

is a trophy a trophy?

I will always take the Shield, as symbolic of supremacy.
The Cup is a crapshoot, and our history in knockout competitions is snake eyes.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Considering that Atlanta is the only team that is competing with us for a shield at this point, barring a catastrophe, our possible match up with them is in conference final. Home field advantage for that series is playing second game at home on a Thursday instead of playing first game at home on a Sunday. I think I would like to play conference finals as the second seed considering how we've fared as the top seed. Key is to top any western seed and possibly host the mls cup at home.

But I still want to win the shield because I don't see this team faring well in the playoffs, regardless of the seed.

Sometimes I think the entire Red Bull existence has been some 19 year old kids football manager save file he only plays when he comes home drunk. - 'Mibabalou'

We've shown we can lose in the playoffs no matter if we have home field or not. I'd just always take my chances on having home field for the final game on the basis that home teams generally still have a higher advantage in this league.

Atlanta is going to beat San Jose. We are going to lose to San Jose, but beat Atlanta.

Beacuase Metro.

Im a hard no on resting guys at this point. Taxi and Murillo should still have legs for days. And although long and Parker were away they didnt even get minutes. Also, word of mouth is that the training sessions arent as intense under Armas as they were under Marsch. The team is young and the dog days of summer are over. Time to sack up and post clean sheets.

Correlation =/= causation. We've lost many of these ties because of being the worse team/coaching/players choking/bad luck, etc. I don't think seeding has been a large or even an important factor. I know many people around here disagree.

Would be easier to travel to the conf final if the away game is on a Sunday.
