I enjoyed both shield wins immensely, even traveled out to Chicago for the second one. That being said I want an actual cup this year. Unless the schedule is balanced where you play every team 2x it's never going to be the most important trophy.

Dude if it's a trophy I want to win it repeatedly I don't care what it is I want to win everything forever and I don't get people who don't have that attitude

we have 2 shields already and I dont think anyone gives a dump about a third.

I am astounded that any true fan holds this opinion.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

I want the shield again and again and again. Not the oldest trophy, but the most legit

Agreed. The fact that soccer fans had to create the Supporters Shield says a lot both about MLSFO/owners/franchisees and the fans.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Have to agree that a Supporters Shield wouldn't do much for me in 2018. MLS Cup or US Open Cup would be memorable.

You are only going to remember 2018 as the year NJ legalized marijuana.
If you remember the year at all!

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

MLS is not going to play a 46-game schedule.

I agree that it's absurd to say the shield doesn't matter--the Chicago shield clincher at home is my favorite RB memory--but I would take an MLS Cup over a shield any day of the week.  As other posters have said, the unbalanced schedule and conference set up takes the sheen off the shield.

I forget sometimes how many newbies fans this team has. Then a thread like this one comes along.

Loyal supporter of the 2013 and 2015 MLS Champions: RBNY/Metro
Loyal supporter of the 2017 MLS Cup Co-Champions: RBNY/Metro
RBNY II aka "The Baby Bulls" are the 2016 USL Cup Champions!
Playoffs are stupid in soccer and I don't care if that hurts your feelings.

Agreed and that's the main reason the cup will always matter more especially at the rate this league keeps adding teams.

We didnt win a single trophy for like 17-18 years.

Id like an MLS cup, but Id take whatever. Its one more than we have now, one more we get that DC/City/Philthy doesnt, etc.

Please Sell My Team to Someone Who Cares.

0 MLS Cups

0 US Open Cups

2 Supporters Shields

0 Champions League Trophies

Let's change those zeros and add some more to that "2".

RIP Guillermo Romulo, Alexander Francis Orig and Celenio Eleazar.

RIP Cesar Castello and Mike Vallo

This never ending discussion is stupid as always. If you win the shield, theres a damn good chance youre in the best position to win the cup. But weve already won a shield!!!!! is a response to the imaginary argument that in challenging for the shield were throwing in the towel for the cup.

Just build the best team possible and challenge for both.

Frankly, since I am merely a fan and a not a fancy American soccer writer, I'm going to congratulate Wright-Phillips on a well hit goal. If I was an American soccer writer, I'd claim that the recently retired Henry was wearing an invisibility cloak and carried the ball into the net for the obviously unskilled Wright-Phillips.
