But remember it's Garber's job to cry poverty so the fucked up treatment of the players by the owners can continue.

Sure.

But you think RBNY is generating a profit?

Probably not overall if you factor in the costs of building the stadium, but if you just go year by year the past few seasons? I would not be entirely shocked if the losses were minimal (and we could discuss what RB really wants out of this team but that would lead to the dead horse thread).

Pro/rel is also unrealistic at this time because of the salary cap, max. salary and foreign player limits in MLS.  Until NASL adopts those limits, or MLS gets rid of them and goes totally free market, how can you have pro/rel?

Sure, but whatever marketing value RBNY holds for Red Bull doesn't factor into the value of the team as a stand alone entity.

Hard to not count the cost of the stadium, or the training facility or the operating costs of RBNY II.

Forbes values us at $178m with $23m in revenue for 2015

The way for promotion and relegation to work in the US is simple, but outlandishly far-fetched.  That is, the lower divisions need to do two things: 1) Remove salary restrictions or, at the very least, raise them to above MLS levels.  2) Implement promotion and relegation.

If the logic that pro/rel advocates use is actually legitimate, this would organically create more interest in the leagues affiliated with the pro/rel regime.  Over time, this system draws more interest than MLS, even if it's officially D-2 and under, brings in more sponsorship money and TV attention/money, and makes MLS irrelevant to the pro/rel conversation.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the only way it comes into play in American soccer, because there is no fucking way the owners in MLS are going to acquiesce to a promotion and relegation structure that has the potential to destroy the value of their investments.

Carolina Railhawks revamped their site for an announcement. There hasn't been many reliable leaks that I found yet. Talk of a women's team or move to USL. If it's the latter, NASL is down to 9 teams next season IF Fort Lauderdale and Rayo OKC both return. If not, they drop to 7 teams and may as well fold and join the USL.

Considering that Bill Edwards, owner of the Rowdies filed a lawsuit for $450k against Ft. Lauderdale and will likely win, he will technically own that team and can move them to the USL as well should he wish and the USL allow it.

So, will we be looking at RB2-Cosmos match-ups?

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

FTL may go USL.

the eventual absorption of the NASL floridian teams in USL will be great for the league and establish a foot print of sorts.

what they give up is their "independence", what they'll get is stability...and in 10-15 yrs, if they line up all of their ducks in a row, a possible MLS expansion spot.

Announcement of merger will be December 6th. USL will be the D2 league.

NASL would be a D3 league and the teams owners don't want that.

Rest of the league is working on move to USL for prior to start of this USL season.
Cosmos are out due to financial obligations. Strikers are out or under new ownership (crazy story but a failed paid loan is allowing Tampa Bay's owner to acquire their assets) and into USL. Rayo OKC are off for a year then relocating.

Carolina Railhawks, Indy 11, FC Edmonton, Miami FC, Jacksonville Armada, PRFC, and possibly SF Deltas would be the teams looking to merge.

RBNY II :)+

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

Yes, official today. They will retain the rights (they may play a NPSL team).

They have ceased operations in NASL, which puts NASL on the ropes.

We'll have to wait for the dust to settle to see what their options really are.

My guess is that NASL folds and everyone moves to a D2 USL. Cosmos play in NPSL for a year or sit a year out and shop around for a new buyer or investor.

If they want to survive in this market, they need a stadium. Some argue there's a chicken and egg relationship between D1 status and getting a stadium approved, which just means they need some deep pockets who could pay an MLS franchise fee + pony up for a stadium.

I don't think the current owners are interested in operating a D2 or D3 team long-term. They either shoot for MLS or bust out.

So Cosmos B becomes Cosmos A?

Can RBNY field a JV U23 team in the NPSL. We've already won that once already.
