Several team veterans have stepped up to vouch for Sekagya’s inclusion within the team. For his part, Sekagya is also said to be highly motivated to stay with the club — under any role. After all, the Ugandan defender has spent the better part of eight years under the Red Bull umbrella, spanning his time in Austria and New York.  He has played leadership roles under both umbrellas, making a player/coach transition relatively seamless.

A dual role for Sekagya could justify his inclusion, and curry favor amongst the current base of Red Bull players desperate for his return.

Is there any in this rout with authority to treat with me? Or indeed with wit to understand me?

Would be a great move, Sekagya is clearly close to a lot of guys in the squad, especially the Euro-based guys, and at the very least he's a serviceable backup.

I wonder how this would impact his salary though. He made way too much to be a backup, could they get away with offering him a lower playing wage and supplementing it with a coaching wage? Doesn't sound like something MLS would be OK with.

Exactly the issue.  Can't think of any precedent for it, but perhaps the historians here can (other than the Kevin Hart situation referenced in the article, which I never thought was formal).

But what about : "...and curry favor amongst the current base of Red Bull players desperate for his return."   Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, but how many of you would consider yourself  "desperate for his return," or believe these ass hats could care any less about currying favor with us?    I mean, yeah, we're desperate for any decent CB, but that's not what they are talking about.

Are you a "Red Bull player"? Sentence says nothing about fans.

How do the wages work?  Can he be paid the minimum and also a coaches salary?

he'd probably get 100k and then a coach's salary. he made almost 200k before bonuses.

Thanks.  Mis-read that.  Makes much more sense now.  FWIW, I have a  Salzburg jersey signed by him.

Where were they for Petke?

They didn't know what was happening to Petke until it was already done.

Interesting new cost cutting measure. Red Bull isn't even going to bring in assistants. They are just slapping titles on players to cut their salaries!

Wasn't Carl Robinson a player/coach during his last year with us?

While I'm not a big fan, any consistency is good at this point. Especially if it's a positive locker room influence.

Walter Zenga was a player/coach in 1999. Pretty sure league still allows it.
