Nice opener for the JV team, a 3-1 win in the track & field stadium over the Orange County Blues.  Kenny Walker had a goal and two assists.  Sounded like a good crowd, too.

Game 2:  Chandler Hoffman scores with about 10 minutes left to give the G2s a 1-1 tie with Sacramento:

It would have been nice to see, but the promised webcast never materialized.  The game was scheduled to start at 7:30, and finally some minutes after 9:00, the Gs' facebook page got around to saying the webcast would not happen, with apologies "for any inconvenience."  Some weak sauce, there.

Game 3:  G2s beat Oklahoma City Energy FC 4-2 on goals by Courtois (didn't realize he was still around), Hoffman, Steres, and Djokovic.

Game 4:  G2s lose 3-0 at home to Sacramento, who'd played another match at Orange County the night before.

The stream cut out again just after halftime - USL Pro really needs to work on that.  Apparently the whole game is up now, though.  Rogers played in the second half, but I'm not interested enough to re-watch this to see how he did.

Game 5:  The JV team's outing was more satisfying, coming from behind to beat Orange County 3-1.  Rugg, Hoffman, and Courtois scored in the second half, and McBean assisted on the latter two of those.

What?  Didn't Rogers just light up everyone and acted as the focus of the Gs2 attack?  Oh that's right, he sucks.

Game 6 (the Varsity team started earlier and has only played 5 games; screwy schedule):  A 1-1 draw at Arizona United.  Mendiola scored first in the 35th minute, but Arizona pressed most of the second half.

Game 7, at Orange County (UC Irvine):  G2s 3, Blues 0.  The Blues are already pretty much established as the 2s' beeyotch.  Garcia, Bowen the Younger, and Zardes scored.  When Zardes gets a shot on frame, the results tend to be spectacular; the trick is getting this to happen more often.

Rogers got fouled at the top of the box to set up Garcia's free kick goal.  So, way to get fouled Rogers.

According the the Blues' announcers, Courtois is an assistant coach as well as a player for the JV team.

Yep, Zardes is a forward.

Bruce & Dave were standing right behind me during the first half. They want Robbie to play faster. I heard Bruce say: "He should be sprinting there." "He's slowing the play down." "Come on, get a shot. Ugh."

They were also talking to someone who sounded like an agent or someone who knows and Bruce asked if they'd "come back over here" and the guy said, sure "make an offer." Don't know who they were talking about.

Bruce was nice enough to pose for a picture with my son.

Game 8:  G2s beat the Charlotte Eagles at home, 2-1.  Rugg scored on a rebound, and Hoffman benefited from a sharp though ball from Garcia.

Correction from the last game:  I think Joe Tutino said Travis Bowen is actually the older brother of Tristan Bowen, the ex-G who's now languishing in goathood.

Glanced at a headline that said Rogers may be playing left back.  See that?

Sounds right.

Game 9:  1-1 draw at the Dayton Dutch Lions.  Hoffman scored off a sharp through ball from Jameson at about 40 minutes, but 3 minutes after that the Dutch Rudders got a penalty kick.  I couldn't see what for on their blurry web cast, but the announcers said it "must've been" a hand ball.

Second round of the US Open Cup:

LA Galaxy II (USL PRO) 6, Cal FC (USASA) 1: LA Galaxy II scored five of its six goals in the opening half and cruised past Cal FC at StubHub Center in Carson, California. Travis Bowen had a first-half brace and LA Galaxy II will now host PSA Elite on May 28.

This PSA Elite team advanced over the San Diego Flash by forfeit.

Game 10:  The JV team rounds out an overall shitty night for Galaxy soccer with a 2-1 loss at Sacramento.  Kyle Venter had the G2 goal, heading in a cross.

The Republic is off to an excellent start.  Of course, their coach is Preki, and you'll recall from his time with the goats that he can get really good results out of a minor league team.

Game 11:  G2s 5, OKC 0 at the main stadium, rounding out a triple-header (starting off with the alumni game).  Hoffman scored the first two; the first looked like a replay of Leonardo's goal earlier, then he scored on a penalty.  Jameson scored two more in the second half; between his slick dribbling and crackerjack shots, he looked like everything Zardes is supposed to be.  McBean rounded out the scoring after a nice sequence of passes.
