IIRC, there was an attempt to build a soccer arena for the MetroStars adjacent to Giants Stadium on Meadowlands property. Anyone recall that?

LOL. I moved to Jersey in 2002, and they were working on that abomination. I moved out of Jersey in 2004, and it wasn't done. I moved back to Jersey 14 years later and it's still not open.

It never occurred to me before that the stores won't be open on Sundays because of the Bergen County blue laws. Amazing.

Will the entire mall be closed on Sundays?
Or just the shops?
I am surprised that the state has not passed a law supervening Bergen Blue Laws within the Meadowlands Sports Complex. No one lives near it.

The NJSEA purposefully drove the MetroStars out of the Meadowlands because they thought MLS was a joke and they were doing the team a favor by allowing them to play on a plastic pitch with gridiron lines in a crumbling cavern of a stadium. So, AEG made the deal with Harrison instead. Then, both the Nets and Devils left the Meadowlands as well. And the racetrack is basically dead. They still have the Jets and Giants, but revenue is down quite a bit for various reasons. The Mall is going to fail, because Americans don't shop retail anymore and the place is being opened half-assed anyway.
Put a fork in the Meadowlands.

I mean, as long as the Jets and Giants are there, I dont think you can declare the Meadowlands as dead. I dont watch football in any capacity, but the NFL is king and those teams will be there for a very, very long time. Its certainly not what it once was, Ill give you that.
