Sounds like they want to make it the Europa League.

Which might make sense- if the fanbases were as large.

Stuff like 2 league cups in England or a 'best of the rest' international tournament really only fly when your sport is super, super popular. We're not there yet. Attendance at CCL games in the USA is already atrocious.

Many sources are saying that multiple MLS clubs are pissed about the leagues cup and its expansion but wont say so publicly. There apparently hasnt been much discussion with the clubs outside of the announcements.

SUM is just trying to add more TV properties ahead of the TV deal renegotiations.  The rights expire in 2022 so starting the tournament next year gives them a couple years to get the kinks out and bundle it all together.

Also lots of properties are up for grabs in 2022 (MLS, NHL, Prem).  So things may shake up substantially.

Pachuca v Galaxy final in 2007? I remember Chris Klein thing that game in stoppage time with a bike. My whole dorm was watching that game for some reason.

These games are gonna struggle to draw at the gate I think.

And there's has got to be something done to help alleviate the fixture congestion and thin rosters. There has to be some roster expansion and additional spending to deal with this. MLS regular season games with many midweek games, Open Cup, cross country travel, this nonsense. Throw in the years where there will be national team callups affecting squads where MLS is playing through international tournaments. Leave the fact that no one will care about this competition to the side, MLS teams will have a lot of trouble dealing with all the extra fixture congestion. Summers for soccer are so busy as it is in this country, this will struggle to gain any attention.

I would be beyond furious if I was a fire fan.

Seeing them get dominated in front of fans who refuse to support their local team for.... reasons.

Im happy were not involved and I think its an absolute travesty this can happen, its fairly disturbing how easily they just created something out of nothing.

Almost like a acid test for a euro super league, I would not be surprised if FIFA much like them trying to squash the ICC by making the club World Cup more of a thing try to stop these non FIFA / confederation sanctioned tournaments or offer much much more prize money to the real CCL.

Galaxy just tied it up, fielding mostly reserves and Tijuana's starting a bunch of their first XI, it seems? I find it hilarious.

This was the front 6 vs Chelsea in '15:

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

Thought he was loaned down all season to Hartford?
