Uh... we went into the playoffs the last two years with Grella as a starting winger and last year with Muyl. Sure both year's we added a player over the summer, but Marsch was more than comfortable going into the postseason with guys that hadn't been hot in months. In 2016 Grella's case, it was over a year.

If either Grella or Muyl score a couple of times the next few games, we could sign a Piatti, but he'd be on the bench.

No... If Piatti was here, he'd be starting.

Marsch threw Freddie right into the fire.  The comparison you are drawing on is Veron and he just sucks.  ANd I'm happy that Marsch just doesn't throw him out there because a lot of coaches do that (in all sports) purely based on what he makes.

The point was that once Marsch commits towards something, he's not just going to flip on it because of a goal or two by a couple of guys.  Plus i think Marsch realizes that Sacha is finished being a really high end player too.  I've seen some people try to blame it on Dax being gone, but I was here after game 1 saying he didn't look the same physically.  He moves and runs like an old man now.  He's seen his athletic drop off and it's hurt his play as it should.

Marsch has flopped because of goals. Vernon is not a DP, but he's been better than Mike, especially in the playoffs.

I'll believe Marsch sits Sacha when I see it.

I'm not sure Veron is better than Grella and I'm not someone who worships Grella.  Playoffs are always debatable because it's such a small sample size.

And no, Marsch is not sitting Sacha.  Nor should he.  Sacha is still near the league lead in chances created, so he shouldn't come out.   It's just that he's not a difference maker in the other areas of the game anymore.  HIs size doesn't matter at this point because he's not able to get into a position to use it and muscle someone off the ball.

It's a small sample size for Veron, but not for Grella.  Mike has started five postseason games and played a decent amount of minutes in a sixth, for a total of 381 minutes.  Grella has more playoff minutes than Veron had total regular season minutes in 2015 and more than half the regular season minutes Veron had in 2016.  So if you feel comfortable saying Veron sucks, then you have to feel comfortable saying Grella has sucked in the postseason.  Even using the "eye test" when was the last time Grella looked good?

So the point here is that both guys suck, and Marsch had to pick the lesser of two evils. That's a different scenario than bringing in a bona fide impact player and having Marsch sit him just cause Grella finally scored his first goal all season. Importance here being on the "bona fide impact" part, and not whatever Veron has been.

In 2015 we didn't know what Veron was and he couldn't even get sub mins. If Grella scores 3-4 goals before the window, do you think Marsch is going to sit him for the signing that would be an unknown quantity in MLS? I hope you're right.

My bigger concern is if Grella or Muyll start scoring and we don't even sign a wide player. Marsch and a lot of the fan base seem to have this faith in Grella and a don't think it would take a lot to get them back behind him.

We need to unload Veron and replace with a productive DP. Until then, is play the less worse player, Veron.

 If Veron can stay healthy enough to earn a run of decent minutes Im for him as a 30 min sub who still has some (fading) potential.

This shape could unlock the team. Weak as hell at the back but it'd make chances.

--------BWP---GF---

Veron-------------Royer

--------SK--Felipe-----

Taxi----------------Murillo

-------Long--Collin-----

I still think 4-3-3 with GF/Royer and Veron/Muyl fed by 3CMs is the look. Best mix of 4-2-3-1 and what they want to do with 4-2-2-2.

Could have been worse. TFC just stomped the Crew.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

And missing both Gio AND Jozy.  I feel slightly better about last week's match... slightly.
