#1295262 Curtis AWOL

Posted by Barcaredbulls on 16 February 2017 - 07:49 PM

I have a picture of my son with Dax and Ali Curtis from a Red Bull Event in 2015.

Am going to have him bring it to an autograph session and have Jesse sign it just to see the reaction.

I thought Michael Lewis column summed it up best...strange, stranger, strangest.

Certainly not "family emergency" and "the flu", but we may never know true story.

Someone said that SWP is just slightly better than Sam , i mean i love Lloyd but that just like saying Henry was just slightly better than Espindola . Swp might have few rough years at Premiership clubs , i think with him training suits with the Squad for that long he might make instant impact . Our midfield might be bets in mls with this addition , overshadowing the blue team .

I wouldn't go that far, but that is the right idea. SWP is clearly a different class of player than Lloyd Sam (who has been our best/most consistent player this year). This is a great signing. SWP is a huge upgrade at his position,  fills a need and should fit from a chemistry perspective. I have been pretty negative this year, and I still won't give the FO 100% credit on this, as the signing is more about the fact that he is BWPs brother than it is about Red Bulls "global reach" or Ali Curtis' MLS connections, but I will take what we can get!

Yeah, because they were signing Dos Santos. Now they can have four DPs. The MLS rules were changed explicitly for them...

Good. This gives Ali Curtis the ability to pay down BWP and add 3 more DPs!

Lloyd Sam ACTUALLY played before coming here, yes West Brom overpaid for someone. yayyy!  Also 23/24 YO Matty Phillips is quite different than 20-22 YO Matty Phillips.   Wow, you found a video of 10 seconds of Matt Phillips doing something.

Matt Phillips had a breakout season at QPR, including a magnificent game in April against Aston Villa that I attended in which he completey dominated Aly Cissoko.  Matt Phillips came over as a 21 year old for $5MM and was handed the number 7 shirt.   Of course he was going to play.  QPR is getting $10-$15MM because that is his market value.  And believe me, SWP would have been playing for Leeds or Notts County.

Now go stand in the corner with your dunce cap on until the short bus comes to pick you up tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, NYCFC signed Columbian center back Jefferson Mena today.

Solid signing. A younger Olave. Would have been nice addition here.

I wonder why he's not with us yet. : "However, Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has been impressed by the 33-year-old, and although his wage demands could be excessive"

Let Wolves pay over the top for a guy who has lost whatever he once had (which wasn't ever great).

This is a tough crowd.  Everyone complains that we only have 1 "recycled" DP, but any player that has been rumored  (even if the rumor is far fetched) SWP, McClean, Britton, Sako, Gomez, Chicharito gets buried by the peanut gallery.

I don't think the prices have increased for the last few years, a rise is natural unfortunately. The people I know around me are renewing. I'm on the fence. * Shrug *.

Raising prices at the same time you are slashing salaries?  Show a commitment to improving the team and then ask for the fans to chip in.

Yes. But that's the club's definition of right player, not yours. Are there DPs that they would be willing to pay for? Yes. Are they likely to be the same names bandied about on this board, for the same amount people here want them to spend? Likely not.

If they go through a summer transfer period that Marsch has identified as "important for us to continue build this team" without signing a DP,  that would mean that out of the hundreds and hundreds of players in the world that would qualify as DP level talent, they were unable to identify even ONE that they are willing pay for. And if that turns out to be the case, wouldn't that prove that the organization has created a definition of a "right player DP" that is truly a unicorn in the current marketplace?

Red Bull has one of the best scouting departments in the world. Why they don't help us out in a league where scouting good value players is a premier remains a great mystery.

It is all about building the lifelong connection between the club and community that transcends the sport.

HE WAS COVERING THE SPACE MIAZGA HAD LEFT.  This is amazing.

What is amazing is that we put Connor Lade on the field.

I wonder who we are going to try to scapegoat for that goal so as not to say something bad about the Bundesliga bound Golden Child's atrocity.

Connor Lade is not MLS quality. Got caught in the middle twice in a row leaving Kamara umarked.  Robles bailed him out once.  Second time. His fault. Send him back to RBNY II

True, but it's also hard to defend paying SWP that much more than Sam. How much, if any, is SWP better than Sam at this point? And he's not a name that puts a ton of butts in the seats and you could argue it's a business decision as much as a soccer one. DP contract yea, but it can't be crazy.

The answer is that he is MUCH better than Lloyd Sam, and Sam is our best player.

Sam couldn't get on the field in the one year Charlton was in the EPL when he was in his prime, had washed out of the Championship with Leeds and was playing in Notts County in League 1 when we picked him up.   HIs international experience was 1 appearance with Englands U-20 team.

SWP is only 2 year older than Sam, has 36 international appearances for England and even on the downside of his prime (which Sam is also in) is in a completely different class.

Give him what he wants.

#1259890 4th DP ("Core Player")

Posted by Barcaredbulls on 02 July 2015 - 10:07 AM

Truthfully, we'll gain zero benefit. Chicharito has fans because he plays in Europe. Those fans will disappear when he's a sub for Robbie Keane late in games. Dos Santos is the same.

Besides, Hernandez just went down with an injury and will be missing the Gold Cup.

You did see that 55,000 (90% pro-Mexican) showed up in Orlando last week to watch them each score against Costa Rica, and that Vela, Chicarito and Dos Sanots jerseys were being sold at the Citrus Bowl. There is a bias here that is clouding your rationality.

#1259516 4th DP ("Core Player")

Posted by Barcaredbulls on 30 June 2015 - 02:21 PM

If MLS makes up rules for LA to get 4th DP, I'm honestly going to stop supporting MLS. That's just BS.

4th DP has been talked about for a while. If LA is willing to spend the $$ more power to them.  Our 1 DP "signing" was already on the team, but I am sure if MLS goes to 4 DPs that Ali will scour the earth long and hard for the 3 "right players."  We have two open slots. If we want Dos Santos and Ali wasn't a muppet for Austria, he should go get him.
