Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Pretty sure this is in reference to Frank Lampard being drunk and mocking Americans that were stranded at Heathrow airport the day after the 9/11 attacks. Fuck him.

I'd start Sam and SWP, and I'd love to get Veron on the field. Maybe one of them at CAM with SK or Felipe to the bench for a game. If NYCFC is trotting out Fat Frank and a 74 year old Pirlo, let's cut our fastest guys loose and dare this team to keep up with us.

Fat Frank is actually older than Pirlo:

Frank Lampard - DOB 6/20/78

Andrea Pirlo - DOB 5/19/79

That's one slow ass tandem there. Run at them for 90 minutes with high pressure. We have the horses. They do not.

pretty sure that's the gameplan, expose their midfield. i'd expect the blue team to be dangerous on set pieces/free kicks near our goal, though. so no stupid fouls near the box please!

I'm imagining this, right?

Imagining that I lost a loved one on 9/11, that a NY athlete mocked the day, and that I somehow get turned on for calling him out? That would be nice.

Me too? I'm pretty sure I have too much connection to NYC and 9/11. Did you actually think I was mocking that day, what the fuck.. Obviously this:

I was working at 61 BWay, so obviously any reference to it will always be touchy for a whole bunch of people who post here.

I'd love nothing more on Sunday than to see our unheralded signings of SWP and Veron run circles around and blow past their BIG name DPs!

Fair enough. (And I agree that Fat Frank deserves everyone's scorn for it). It just didn't come off as well as you would have wanted judging by the reaction.

As for me, I smell Ben Gay

I got the reference immediately, not shocking because I believe I was the first US reporter to grill him on the topic. That said, it doesn't surprise me at all that your initial comment drew the reactions it did on here, because it was likely unclear to almost anybody unless they both follow Chelsea and live in NY. (Or are anal-retentive reporters).
