such a dumb, shortsighted idea, from top to bottom.

Will you be changing your screen name?

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Chelsea could do it right now by simply recalling all of its players that are out on loan.  It would be a poor Premier League team, and might get relegated.  But would Chelsea care about the Premier League anymore?

Chelsea has 2 dozen good to excellent players on its active roster.
No real need to recall any of the 40 loaned out.

It's all academic as the ESL seems to be falling apart.  Chelsea and Man City are out, as are Barca and Atletico Madrid.

Hey, it they're looking for teams, I know a Super Club in New Jersey that could play.  If I remember correctly, the team has a pretty good record on European soil.

An amazing miscalculation by a bunch of people who should have known better.

These teams would assuredly get kicked out of both domestic and Champs leagues, and FIFA already said any player who is involved would be banned from the World Cup and Euro Cup. I doubt any of the tier 1 stars would risk missing out on the international tourneys, and the remaining players don't have enough clout to generate enough $$ to compensate for the loss of the domestic/Champs leagues. Seems pretty much DOA to me.

Looks like you were correct and I was wayyyyyy off base. And I'm quite happy about that. This whole thing appears to be blowing up rather quickly.

Never underestimate the unbridled hubris of a billionaire with a liquidity problem.

Spot on.

Expect litigation from players who may be affected.
Ultimately, rulings from the Court of Arbitration for Sport
https://en.m.wikiped...ation_for_Sport
and European Court of Human Rights:

Although the issue seems moot at the moment,
the SL managed to obtain an injunction in Spain
prohibiting retaliation against breakaway clubs.

This was hilariously stupid. Did they not expect this fairly obvious response?
