On a side note the Long Island Rough Riders are a PDL team since 2007. That quite a drop. They were in the A-league and had many notable area players on their squads throughout the years:

They had some ownership issues, which is why they ended up dropping down. They now play at St. Anthony's HS instead of Mitchell Field.
Of course, it's hard to tell what leagues are better than others nowadays. I really think that getting a robust and stabilized (if localized) D-3 league where (amongst other things) reserve guys can be loaned would help soccer in the US.

As soon as MLS and NYC can agree and find a suitable place to get approvals to build a stadium.
