Is this the same team Fern was trying to get together?

Yeah, the same. This is more their deal though. I was only promoting it.

The Anaheim league is infuriating. I literally had a one eyed ref with no linesman calling the game once. Needless to say he had a hard time with offsides calls. We had him a few times. The fields are dreadful, too.
The games will likely never be called fairly for any LARS type players. You pretty much have to be a group of guys from the same rural town in Mexico as the ref for any chance at fair officiating.
Plus, the air is so fucking awful in the summer there sometimes.
The only thing good about it is it's cheap.
Not that I care as I am truly beyond my playing days. If I even think about kicking a ball, I get a foot injury.
Ummm, have fun guys!

Besides the "one eyed ref," your description doesn't really sound any different than the league B&G used to play in.The Anaheim league is infuriating. I would even go far as to say that same description fits about 80% of rec leagues in So Cal.
Appreciate your encouraging input though....

like josh said, i was in a rec leage 2 years ago that was about $400 to register the team, consisted of about 12 games, and that was that. fields were a little nicer (also had to pay $70 to reserve a home field) plus $15 for a player card and $75 each game for ref. If you want to pay the $$ you can play in a better league. For $40 a pop, its a very reasonable league.
the fields might be a little rough, nothing more than expected on a field used heavily for soccer all year 'round. We opted out of hiring a groundskeeper in the contract, we felt the club's funds ($1.00) would be better suited elsewhere.
Apparently, be sure to bring your shin guards, socks and nanoparticle meters for every game.

The refs were kinda generous to us though. They knew we didn't fight and I think that put them at ease.
