#1439847 Random Player Name Thread 2024

Posted by odsum25 on 01 December 2023 - 12:16 PM

I'd think there'd be a market for a guy who's only 30 and two years removed from being a very good Premier League player.  He may not be a Premier League player anymore, but some team in France or the Bundesliga, maybe Turkey, might take a shot.

He couldn't even latch on in Saudi Arabia.  Maybe he's asking for a ton of money, or making some other crazy demands, and that's why he hasn't signed.

He was supposedly a key part of the toxicity of the United locker room and then had forgettable stints at West Ham and Forest.

Plus, he was just convicted for drunk driving at double the legal limit. He wouldn't get a visa here.

D. Nealis is back for 2024: https://www.newyorkr...ew-mls-contract

I like bringing him back as a utility player on a one year deal.

#1439276 Sandro Schwarz in

Maintz yes, you can compare to Leeds, though to avoid relegation in Premiership I could argue is a much bigger accomplishment. Jesse did that twice, and second season he kept them above the line and AFTER he left, they actually went below the line. But Hartha, where he inherited #16 team above the line and took them to #18 below the line is where he really failed, and we can't discount that.

With all that said, I hope Sandro succeeds. He has some Bundesliga experience and it appears did pretty well in Moscow. Most recent experience really sucks though. Could be another Struber, but hoping for the best.

On the other hand, Schwarz took over Mainz after a 15th place finish and took them to 14th and 12th in the first two years, before slumping in 2019 and getting fired, so you might say that he exceeded Marsch's performances at Leeds. (It's also totally valid to put more weight into saving Leeds from relegation).

I guess the bigger point is that it's really hard to dig into statistics for managers outside of perennial Champions League contenders because everyone has a mixed bag of results. This isn't a truly exciting managerial appointment, but not an awful one. Like you say, we can only hope for the best.

Only exception to this would be if you had an Android mobile phone and you are on the road and away from a bar. There is no Apple TV app for Android mobile phones unfortunately.

Android user here. Apple TV works fine in browser, although it's ridiculous that they don't have an Android app.

The first one is tough...if a red was given on the field for DOGSO, I don't think it would have been overturned, but I can understand why the yellow on the field wasn't considered a clear and obvious error.

The second seemed like it should have been red. It was a bad, reckless challenge, but he did try (and succeed) in pulling back when he realized what was about to happen. I'd err on the side of red there because it was still really reckless, but I can understand why they stuck with yellow. (I also wonder whether the ensuing shenanigans impacted the VAR decision on the foul).

and immediately exposed in the playoffs..   Garbage formation.  Might as well wave the white flag before kickoff.

NYCFC (2021), Columbus (2020), Seattle (2019), Atlanta (2018) all won MLS Cup with a single striker formation  Mostly 4231.

Different coach, different players, different MLS. The league has significantly changed. Are the players and tactics good enough against other MLS teams? Like others have said, Ill wait until all our key players play together and are healthy before I yell failure.

That's all fine and I agree that the league has developed and we need to see the key attackers together.

But for someone to say that they've never seen a single striker formation work in MLS or elsewhere is some serious hyberbole.

I've never seen a team play with a single striker and have any measure of success, in MLS or elsewhere. Why Struber insists on this is beyond me.

I guess you weren't around for most of BWP's time here?

#1416584 Marsch to Leeds

And Adams has been integral to snuffing out Chelsea attacks and quickly distributing the ball forward.

Jesse has Chelsea looking like the MLS teams who didn't know what a high press was in 2015.

*whispers* I think the team is quitting on Strubers hyper press system and hes not a good enough coach to overcome that

That might be a bit too far, but a team with this little depth was never going to be able to play that way so frequently in the middle of the summer. It's not a huge surprise that there have been three consecutive second half collapses.

Not sure what should give. I'd say that Struber needs to dial back the intensity a little bit if there's congestion at this time of year, but really, he just needs more players.

We can talk about strikers (and we should) all we want, but the fact that we're relying on Tolkien and D Nealis to play every minute is crazy. If Stoke really wants Edwards back, the back line is screwed

It's absolutely nuts that there is no VAR in the Open Cup semifinal. It's one thing for lower division sides in the early rounds, but why wouldn't they put it into place for the quarters and on?

The WTC Path weekend closure made a huge difference for me in 2019. I still used my season ticket almost every match that year, but the much longer trip was frustrating.

Crowds were already shrinking by 2019, but I'd bet that the Path difficulties sped things up further.

On the upside, Luquinhas looks to be a terror with the ball at his feet.

Anyone know how the quality of the Uruguayan league compare to MLS?

Below MLS because the top prospects move on very quickly, but there is a lot of talent.

This guy plays in Argentina though.
