The draw for the 2011-2012 CONCACAF Champions League is today. So we'll know which group we're in and our first opponent, as well as the four preliminary squads fighting to enter our Group. A few notes for this year, it seems Nicaragua has a suitable stadium this year, Belize's Defense Force did not, Monterrey is the first title holder to return to the tournament.

At this time the teams that have qualified are as follows:

QUALIFIED TEAMS

United States (4): Los Angeles Galaxy, Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, Seattle Sounders
Mexico (4): Monterrey, Santos Laguna, UNAM, Morelia
Canada (1): (Toronto FC or Vancouver Whitecaps)
CFU (3): (3 out of Alpha United, Tempete, Puerto Rico Islanders, Defence Force)
Belize (1): Olimpia (3rd in Honduras, replaces Belizean Champs, due to lack of adequate stadium)
Costa Rica (2): Alajuelense, Herediano
El Salvador (2): Alianza, Isidro Metapan
Guatemala (2): Comunicaciones, Municipal
Honduras (2): Real Espana, Motagua
Nicaragua (1): (Real Esteli or Walter Ferretti)
Panama (2): Tauro, San Francisco

Qualified for Group Stage

There are 4 Pots from which teams will be drawn. Qualifying Round Pots A and B, and Group Stage A and B. QR Pots will determine who plays who in the Qualifying Round. GS Pots will determine the groups for the direct qualifiers, and where QR match winners will go.

Mexico 4

There's still a chance. If PR finishes second in the CFU tourney, and manages to be the first non-Mexican team to upset a Mexican team, they could enter our Group

Just the other day, on the 210 east just before Rosemead in Pasadena, I saw the Pumas logo rubbed into the dirt on the back panel of a delivery truck.

Maybe it was the logo for the "Lion King"?
