was Kaku not starting due to knock?

Definately want a fully healthy Kaku for last 2 weeks + playoffs and considering he will likely have international travel in Oct.

Haven't been able to find a direct quote from Armas on it, but during the broadcast Shep thought it was just a coach's decision. Shep thinks a lot of things though.

The difference between Sims and Muyl really highlighted just how badly we've been missing some direct, attack-minded play on that right wing ever since Lloyd Sam left.

Even when Muyl's first instinct is to take the ball towards goal, his total lack of speed and 1v1 ability kill most attacks before they get anywhere. Sims created his own luck on the first goal by seeing space in front of him, even 40 yards from goal, and having the confidence and ability to put the defense on its heels.

Armas has his moments, that's why we're mid table and not bottom feeders. They're just not very consistent moments and the time in between ain't pretty.

Not sure why we stopped pressing again after the goal. Second half was painful, never strung more than a few passes together. Game was crying for Kaku and some possession. Rza was done at 70 and needed to come off.

Great win though. Made playoffs. Decent chance for 5th and maybe even 4th.

The guys looked gassed in the second half to me. To be honest both teams looked gassed in the second half, that was some ugly soccer on display.

Lots of praise overall to go around in this one, but one guy I don't think has gotten his due credit is Barlow. That was easily the most mature performance he's had as a pro. His movement off the ball, hold up play, and confidence with the ball at his feet were all a clear step above what we've seen from him so far.

CCJ... great player and decent game but he has to break his habit of lunging into tackles after he takes a heavy touch or loses possession. That was a horror tackle on Paredes and I still have no idea how he avoided a red card there, he's done the same thing a few times this season but luckily avoided obliterating anyone's legs until yesterday.

...who cant even get minutes when BWP AND BRIAN WHITE get injured AND we move to a two-forward formation.   We actually have that $2M kid as FIFTH on the depth chart... 6 months after signing him.

Ivan's agent: And they'll just throw money at you, even if your guy won't play! I fleeced them for $350k

Jorgenson's agent: Hold my beer...

#1353872 Has Armas lost the team?

Posted by iced1776 on 16 September 2019 - 07:37 AM

Usually when you talk about losing the team you're talking about mentality and effort. Other than some tough spells from guys who were clearly hoping to cash in on a transfer opportunity, it doesn't seem to me like that's what's going on here.

I just don't think Armas is as good of a coach as Marsch. He can't settle on an identity that he wants the team to play with, or he's not as good as communicating that vision to the players. Under Marsch our guys moved as a total unit 100% of the time, under Armas it often looks like 11 guys just rolled the ball out and picked a new FIFA formation to try out.

I did not realize at first that 2003 meant his birth year and not the last time he was a top midfielder

Henry was constantly frustrated with Cooper. He was quoted in the article wrt BWP should have 40+ goals or whatever. Did he say anything at all about Luke Rodgers (2011) or Cahill (2014) when they were featured up top?

Henry on Luke Rodgers, possibly the only player he was afraid of in his entire career:

https://nypost.com/2...n-star-donovan/

“I tip him to finish top goal-scorer this year. I tip him, yeah,’’ Henry told the Post before tonight’s tilt vs. Columbus (7:30 p.m., MSG). “I knew he was going to score goals straightaway. When Luke has the ball, he wants to shoot. Good for him; he’s that type of striker. If you don’t give him the ball, he’s not happy, he will curse.

“I knew if we were going to play well, Luke was going to score plus-15. And I will tell you, I’m more than happy to score goals, but I would love if Luke finishes top goal-scorer. I think Luke right now is living a dream. He’s been unleashed. Go. He’s happy, he’s buzzing. You need to be like that to play good football. If Luke scores three (tonight), good for us; carry on like that. We want to win.’’

And a bonus article from Brian Lewis I found while looking for the above quote. Some top notch bleeping on this one Brian!

https://nypost.com/2...n-star-donovan/

“In this league, he’s a respected person, but he’s telling Titi to (screw) off. The kid’s a (genitalia)head. I don’t care. I just think the kid’s a (friggin’ jerk). I don’t care what you put,’’ said Rodgers, clear that his views were his views, and he didn’t care if they were printed, blogged or tweeted.

God I miss Luke Rodgers....

More 4-3-1-2 please. The team looked electric in the first half against NE in that formation, and it seemed to put our most talented players in a position to play their best game. It helped that Davis has been doing a better impression of an actual #6 lately, it lets Rzatkowski and CCJ off the leash to push further up field. Royer was having fun with it too even if his finishing was millimeters off all game.

Just caught up to the game and this thread and am so thoroughly confused as to why the conversation is about Buckmaster and the Omir sub when we had a billion super high quality scoring chances from inside the 18 yard box and only posted one. The finishing was hot garbage, Royer alone had TEN (!!!) shots and scored zero even if he did come close several times.

If this game ends 5-1 like it should have, are we still honestly complaining?

#1351600 EPL Interest in Aaron Long

Posted by iced1776 on 13 August 2019 - 01:08 PM

And no, that won't prevent us from getting other young players and giving them a raise over their current situation.

For international players especially I'm not sure this is true. Nobody growing up in South America dreams of playing in MLS their entire career, and we don't tend to overpay those guys all that much. Kaku barely makes more here than the average salary in Argentina's first division.

We're a stepping stone to bigger and better things for these players. I don't think Red Bull is being unreasonable in Long's case, but if they develop a reputation for holding players hostage then young guys will 100% think twice about joining another team or league to further their career.

#1351567 So now what's the ideal XI (and subs) from late August on?

Posted by iced1776 on 13 August 2019 - 10:49 AM

I am a huge Sean Davis fan, but I don't see him as first choice in this formation.

I also have assumed Murillo is on his way out, and while he would be a better offensive option than Muyl in the attacking 3rd, I don't see him pressing enough or doing enough  to track back

I feel like Murillo's problem isn't laziness, the dude runs plenty and is a phenomenal natural athlete. He just switches off too often when he's in the box and ball watches. As a wingback I think I trust him to get up and down the field OK (famous last words...)

A little bit of credit where credit is due, both of the free kicks taken by Vela were absolutely perfect. The second both of those balls left his feet I knew there was at least some potential trouble there.

#1351359 Room for improvement on our roster

Posted by iced1776 on 11 August 2019 - 08:35 PM

what i want to know is how the Galaxy got Pavon visa wise, etc. cleared to play for today.

We are a team that once lost a striker because we literally forgot to renew his visa. Immigration law isn't really our thing.

#1351262 Etienne tweets about snakes... then gets loaned out

Posted by iced1776 on 09 August 2019 - 09:25 AM

I don't buy this argument that he was held back by either coach for a heartbeat. Etienne got 900 minutes last season and was on pace for about the same this season. Those aren't scrub minutes, that's way more than enough time to prove that you can perform consistently (that's the key word here) and Etienne failed to do that. The last few games encapsulate his play perfectly. He gets three straight starts, has a great performance in the first one, then spends the next two flailing aimlessly around the field trying the occasional FIFA skill move before giving the ball away.

Yes its the coach's job to give young players minutes to prove themselves. But when the player isn't meeting expectations, it is absolutely NOT that coach's job to keep giving them minutes with the blind hope that they flip a switch.
