I like White better than Barlow as an MLS prospect.  Said it before but I don't think Barlow has the short area quicks and athleticism for the next level.  He has very good long speed for sure, but there's just not enough points in the game where that matters.  Also don't think he has as much skill as White with the ball.

Will give credit to Montreal though.  Defensively they were good and didn't allow much to Barlow, or anyone else offensively.

I didn't see the game, did he look actively bad? Or did he just have no chances?

He was responsible for the first Montreal goal, was needlessly offside (and still blew the chance) on a terrific goalscoring chance that would have made it 2-0, and was generally completely out of his depth.

He barely touched the ball, didnt display any ability to hold up the ball, and didnt follow through with obvious runs on more than one occasion. Not good, although he was put in an awful spot and had no support whatsoever.

Very minimal involvement but that was largely due to his wayward movement and inability to collect the ball when it did head his way.

As much as I like Tom Barlow, hes still very raw. 1v1 against the keeper is a crapshoot with him and takes some awful shots.
These things are teachable. Barlow barely saw time until later in the season after improving dramatically.
He needs time at the USL level so as to not interrupt his progress.

Brandon Allen tore up the USL as well. Granted what he lacked really couldnt be taught.

I should have added there is zero way he is ready for MLS. The rest still holds true.

There were few alternatives against Montreal. DE7 is not a striker. Jorgenson has looked worse with his chances already. I like the fact that they gave hime a chance.
This post is dedicated to all the slow defenders of the world. Godspeed! my brothers

Royer makes good runs into good spots and finishes. He should have started up top.

Do we have anyone with real speed up top? It doesn't seem like we have any players that can really burn a defender when needed. It doesn't work in all situations, but a lot of teams seem to make a living by having a guy hanging out right on the border of off-sides.

Etienne is fast, but can't consistently finish.

Not a smart way to give this guy a debut honestly. Not really putting him in a position to succeed. If he had more wingers or attackers to play off of like Etienne or Kaku maybe his hold up play would've been more effective. It's just one game though but I still like what I see from Brian White more right now.

He should have been a bench option. Should have waited until the Open Cup to give him a start against likely a USL team.

Jorgenson I believe has some real speed. He's just not that great at anything else from what we've seen.

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

his biggest issue to me is his lack of physical presence.  i think he technical skills don't look as good as they are in games because he gets bullied off the ball.

Barlow'll be White's backup

This worked out perfectly today.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.
