Lot of people making grand assumptions because they never heard of a player before. We wont know how good we are or where we stack up until games start getting played. I remember when people thought BWP sucked or questioned why were bringing in some guy from the Carolina rail hawks on trial etc. Tom bogert has an exclusive interview with thelwell coming soon so perhaps we will get more context. Some of the moves are a bit confusing seemingly building at positions we have depth in but we may find out thelwell and Struber have a vision for what they want that the starters we felt we had dont totally fit

I dont disagree but I am basically forced to put my entire trust in the system and coaching philosophy of Struber. His apparent evaluation of our player needs does not match mine at all, so I just have to assume he magically knows what he is doing. Its not great.

with out knowing how exactly he wants to play its hard to totally asses our needs.

We don't need to know that to know that we need better versions of anything he's brought in, and better versions of some of the guys already here.    Where are the DPs?    We need DPs.

Comparing trialists from 2013, when the record transfer fee in the history of MLS was 4 million for a 31 year old Robbie Keane, to today, when nearly every team in the league is getting clearly better with every transfer window and we're lowballing the shit out of teams and then giving up.  That's an absurd comparison.

People keep moving the goalposts from "I'll be critical if there aren't real improvements to the starting XI" to "Just wait, there's plenty of time before the season starts" and eventually ending at "Well nobody can judge this offseason until we start playing games".  It's the same shit every window.

I wonder which one is more likely:

Option 1: Thelwell and Struber are tortured geniuses who have a galaxy brain plan that is too big for any of us mere mortals to understand.

Option 2: More of the exact same that we've seen for years.  No clear improvements to the starting roster, nearly dead last in the league in spending, open roster spots, open DP spots, no attempt to be competitive with the top teams in this league.

Soon we'll reach the phase of the offseason where people say "Well COVID made things hard, and the FO was preoccupied with Kaku, and January signings from Europe are always tough, and now there's the U22 initiative, so you should just wait until the summer because that's when the real signings will show up"

Rinse and repeat.  It'll be a fun race for 10th in the East.

I think this team is better than 10th in the East but a lot of what you say is valid.

Just like some in the fanbase criticize everything the team does the opposite extreme exists where everything is explained away and the team is infallible in their decision making.

I lean more towards the apologist side, but theres definitely a big gap between expecting the team to splash >$10 million on one DP and wanting the team to use its TAM, its u22 spots, and at least 2/3 DP spots.

I dont mind the high risk dart throws so much, but its a problem when the majority of the roster/international spots are going to those types of guys and improving on areas of the roster that werent major weak points heading into the offseason.

They certainly targeted some higher price tag or high potential guys (Haksabanovic, and Ill include Kahl because hes a youth international and regular for AIK at 19 years old), but either lacked the budget or willingness to budge off their valuation of the player in order to sign them.

They take risks with the quality of the roster with the types of players they bring in, but are apprehensive to take monetary risks for a higher caliber of player.

I demand the team spend whatever the fuck their competitors are spending, but I also realize that being ruled by Austrian overlords leads to certain inevitable parameters. So okay, fine. I dont like it, but its a more than reasonable business model and hard to argue on that front.

However, those parameters dont include ignoring obvious areas of need.

This roster is a pathetic joke and me personally as a fan? I feel completely disrespected and fully expect this team to fall flat on its face.

This roster sucks ass and I am not entertained.

As mentioned prior, this definitely has to mean Jensen is gone. Two international slots on gk is just inept roster management.

If you assume management is inept it makes perfect sense.

If you assume management is inept it makes perfect sense.

The counterpoint I would make is that this is sunken cost fallacy. If the premise is that Jensen is staying, that intl spot is used no matter what. You can't change that. The question then becomes whether Coronel is that much of an improvement to be worth the expenditure of both the salary and another intl spot.

If RBNY truly believe Coronel is a massive upgrade, then you grab him. Whether he actually is a sizable upgrade to make it worthwhile is a separate question, but not making a big upgrade in theory because of a sunken cost would be nonsensical.

All that being said, I really hope Jensen is on the move.

Loan Jensen, go into season with Coronel, Mearea and Lewis.

Would open a roster spot and international spot ?

If so makes sense...atleast to me...
