How does he turn it around? BWP was in a funk at the start of last season too and he ended up doing fine.

He turns it around if they revert back to a 4-2-3-1 and you let him distribute from the middle. Jesse isn't going to do that though.

We've played enough of the 4-2-3-1 this season and he's looked poor in that formation as well.He turns it around if they revert back to a 4-2-3-1 and you let him distribute from the middle. Jesse isn't going to do that though.

He's definitely off even aside from the formation, especially today, but there's no denying that the 4-2-3-1 is where he fits best. I'd still really like to see Marsch start the game in that shape and let Kljestan settle in and control the game, rather than going to it for the last 25 desperate minutes.

Absolutely nailed it. A guy just isn't going to go from 20 assists to jack shit. If you let him play where he's most comfortable he will come back into his own.

Have the baby sleep in the other room. He'll be fine but very disappointing so far this season. A lot of poor touches and not a lot of hustle on defense.
Certainly don't let him take penalties.

Ummm, when Sacha lined up with Jesse as Chivas USA players under Bob Bradley, they fielded the empty bucket. And Sacha wasn't shielding the defense in those days, like Marsch did. Sacha was in the 2nd group of midfielders right behind the strikers. That was 10 yrs ago. He's played there, he just ain't doing great at it this season and we need him to sack up.

Go back to the 4-2-3-1 and wish for the best.

Not sure formation is the biggest issue. Sacha is just not making good passes or decisions. No formation is gonna change much of that.
Sacha's mobility is horrible though... He's taken a definite step back with that. Physical declines can be fast and I think he's declining fast. That said, his passing and vision shouldn't decline like this so those 2 things I'm gonna chalk up to just him starting slow.
When he's out in space it's almost embarrassing at this point.

Does that mean he has to look like absolute garbage in the 4-2-2-2?

Don't disagree that Sacha (and the team probably) would look better if they reverted back to the 4-2-3-2.
Does that mean he has to look like absolute garbage in the 4-2-2-2?
They would look AWESOME in a 4-2-3-2. It would solve so many of our problems.

He, BWP, Felipe and Dax were all on the same page, and could anticipate each other's movements. He's not there yet with the new guys. Him and Gulbrandsen both missing a bunch of pre-season doesn't help.

He will continue to be terrible in a 4-2-2-2, as will we. It's absolutely mind boggling.
The type of player that needs a huge pocket of space and is a liability defensively. If you don't play a 4-2-3-1 you can't field him and unfortunately we don't have the option not to play him. Unfortunately, the former means he is found out every time we have an important elimination game.

I guess I'm a little confused as to Marsch's stubbornness here. Didn't he literally tell fans last year that he abandoned the 4-4-2 cause it didn't get the best out of Kljestan? He said during pre-season that it would look a little different this year compared to last, but I don't see it, looks the same to me. So Marsch has to know that he's not putting his 20 assist CAM in a position to succeed.
