#1351485 Metro - LAFC Game Thread

Not going to read much into losing this game.  If anything, I was happy about the effort in the first half, when we were the better team.

More concerning is that the writing was on the wall with Murillo for some time and that we didn't line up an adequate replacement during the transfer window.   I have said that Hamlett deserves the benefit of the doubt for not signing DP-level players, because his hands are likely tied.  But I think that the failure to deal/sell Murillo during the transfer window and line up an adequate replacement falls squarely on Hamlett.

in the same vein, i think ppl wanted a duo that produced more goals and assists than the Grella-Sam combo did. We've got Royer doing his bit on one side, but still looking for the complementary piece on the opposite side that can try and match Royer's offensive production.

Not only did they score goalsGrella and Sam were fun to watch.

#1349564 EPL Interest in Aaron Long

If we had any CB depth, I would even be okay with a summer sale.  I think we could make due with a Parker-Tarek tandem, but there's nobody, and I mean NOBODY, behind them.  The drop off is so steep.  Nealis has looked okay at times, but, more often than not, he's been terrible.  I think with more seasoning he can be a solid squad player, but he is not there yet.

Hamlett is in so far over his head, its an embarrassment.  I would think that he has nothing at all going on for a transfer, unlike every other sporting director in MLS.

I believe 1 or 2 things happen in the transfer market for us:

1:  RB Europe unloads a player to us in the next month that is a surplus to requirements to them.  Just a way to unload salary and a spot for their more important teams.

2. Another sporting director tricks Hamlett into taking a player that used to be good but sucks now.  Basically, selling Hamlett on a relclamation project.  This guy can revive his career in the right environment like RBNY.  Then laugh when Hamlett takes the bait.

This post makes a lot of assumptions (which are probably unwarranted).  Hamlett answers to others.  The club has a philosophy, and Kaku notwithstanding, its to do things on the cheap.  And we are going through scouting upheaval, having just canned out main scout.  Not sure you can lay this at Hamletts feet.  For all we know, hes begging Austria to allow him to sign multiple players.

I agree with this.

It's also crazy that, for as good as White has been, his minutes/goal ratio in the league this season is worse than BWP's ratio over his ENTIRE tenure here. 1 goal every 152 minutes for White, 1 goal every 132 minutes for BWP.

Well, I'd hazard a guess and say that BWP's numbers were way, way worse over his first however many minutes with the club, when compared with White's.  In his first half season here, people were calling him a dud.

I think his lack of a right foot is the reason.  It's the same reason that I think Lindpere never made it in a top European league.

#1349145 What is Muyl good at?

Posted by sec201 on 14 July 2019 - 11:17 PM

FROM MOTHERFUCKING POINT BLANK RANGE.

He scores and the throw-in/corner matters less.

Thank god we won, or he would have been excoriated.  Dude was otherwise great tonight.   And he does so many things well.  However, he cant seem to get out his own way.

I park in Harrison on the street just past where the game day parking restrictions end.  Its great, no traffic on the way out. and my fat ass has to get some walking in.

#1347132 BWP on trading block?!

As someone said above, this rumor is not particularly well-sourced.  And I think the effects on the locker room of this being done mid-season would be terrible.  It's not part of the club's M.O.

I do expect, however, that this is likely BWP's last season with us.  It is totally part of this club's M.O. to unceremoniously get rid of players in the off-season.

And Marsch had those same bumps in the road like beginning of 16 and period of 2017. And Armas has done well to work through the struggles like Marsch did.

My theory is that the Ralfball style of play sometimes results in slow starts.  You have to be extraordinarily fit to play the high press, and that fitness only comes through playing games.  Recall that Marsch had two slow season starts in his tenure here.  And I think that Leipzig started slow last season, but finished incredibly strong.   Would be curious to see how the records of Salzburg, RBNY, and Leipzig are during the first half of seasons vs. the second half of seasons.

My theory is that rbny doesn't have the fitness level they had in previous squads. I noticed that we look gassed by the 70th minute.

I actually think the way we play is part of the reason we've had some slow starts to the season since we started playing Ralfball (including under Marsch).  You need to be fit to play the way we play now, and the best way to develop that fitness is through games, rather than training.  That takes time.

We've also had some exceptionally strong finishes, too (such as last year).
