#1340377 Random Player Name Thread 2019

i hate this thread because it is a constant reminder that our owner does not have serious ambitions for us.

I don't know why people think striker/forward and wing are that easily interchangeable, except maybe in a 4-3-3

I actually think player classifications can be misleading, it really depends on the type of player they are. What we really need is a 3rd goal scorer to complement BWP and Royer. We need a troika. Pogba is a midfielder, but when he is "on" he acts like a striker when he gets near goal. Robben in his prime could cross with the best of them, but could also finish like a striker. We need 8-10+ from a 3rd player on the team. Maybe that will ne Kaku now that he is settled in, but given our formation it would be great to get more finishing beyond BWP and Royer.

Can he open up and widen the field, giving more chances for the whole team? That's what we will want to know.

That said, if he can develop into a super sub and spot starter when we need to give BWP a rest or when the speed and fresh legs can be most valuable against tired defenders, that has value in and of itself even if he never ascends to a full time starter.

#1340272 Why did we lose to Atlanta?

Remember that one season with Henry? I dunno, I think our system puts a lot on our wide backs and Lade struggles - things were more simple in the 4-4-2 diamond when he made overlappng runs.

Sucks Duncan was injured.

If you have to build your formation around Lade that is a serious weakness.

Cause you're only talking about one play when Atlanta bossed us around for the entire 90 minutes of that game.

When one or two players look bad, even for just a key moment, by all means they deserve the blame. When everyone looks bad for the entire game, playing a style they had at most two weeks to prepare for, how do you not look at the coach?

It's simplistic to say it is the coaches fault. Players have to execute, they don't always. And even more important, the other side gets paid to play too. You had too evenly matched teams. Both won a leg, but we lost in the aggregate. Was there some "blame" to apportion? Most certainly, Probably a combination of coach and multiple players, but you also have to give Atlanta credit too. You aren't talking about some 2nd rate squad that "stole" a victory.

I disagree on both counts. While Lade has done yeoman service for RB over the years, there has to be a point where he becomes surplus to requirements. At best he should be a seldom-used reserve.
The bigger shame may be that no one on the roster has displaced him from his current role.
As for the first leg against ATL, it seemed that their coach realized that Lade was the weak link in the back, and repeatedly attacked there, leading to the cross that resulted in the first goal. Of course, there was poor coverage on the receiving end, and hint of handball, but to say that Lade was also not at fault is too much for me. I would have preferred him to be much more physical, early, even to the point of a yellow card. But, he was probably instructed to cover, not body up.

Agreed. I am not anti-Lade, but he offers zero in attack and sometimes has to be extra aggressive physically on defense to compensate for his size. If he was a consistent starter he would be our weakest link.

However, for one game against a supposedly weaker opponent he can do fine.

Well, it's all in the math...

If you spend 6M on a Kaku level player, you can also spend 6M by getting 3 players at 2M or 4 at 1.5M. Yes, the Kaku type is a surer bet, but if you get two or more the other way to contribute (provided you have patience for some development time) it can pay off.

Personally I like a blend of the two approaches. Of course if all they are doing is getting one player at say 1.5M instead of one at 6M, then we will be perennially close but rarely or maybe never reaching the promised land.

I mean Mitrita cost like 10 million and is supposedly the best player in the entire Romanian league. Jorgensen is gonna be what 1 million if that and has played 15 times professionally.

I'm not against this move but im still waiting for us to dump ivan and bring in a attacking RW of top quality.

Keep waiting...

Finally the big time game-changing international we've been waiting for!

In a kiddie pool this is a big splash!  :D

Seriously though, don't we want good young prospects to come over here like Casseres (or homegrowns like Adams) to develop and get indoctrinated in the Red Bull way? Start grooming them before they are absolutely needed?

Besides, with his speed he might make a good winger too in our formation.

The difference between Atlanta and us when it comes to transfers is obvious. We are part of a bigger global soccer organization that we will suffer being a part of and hopefully benefit from. Adams went to Leipzig as basically an internal move. I don't know if we would have gotten too much more for Adams from an outside move to a different organization/club but I know he wouldn't have been sold for as much as Almiron was. Now selling someone like Kaku might be different if he's not seen as someone who they will look to move to our European counter part. Not as much as Almiron but more than Adams to a third party within either Europe or the Americas. That's the thing, Red Bulls European interests are going to get the priority for talent if "we" NJ Red Bull develop it and they want it. Atlanta doesn't have that organizational hierarchy to deal with.

The benefit in this structure is the possibility for us to have better quality players loaned to us from our Europe clubs. We've had some decent players brought in but nothing that puts us over the top.
It would be nice if they actually send us a loan or two of their younger talent that's not fully ready for say Leipzig's starting 11/18. With that said we just lost Adams too them and he's only 19. They could have kept him with us for another year or two knowing he will eventually move to Germany but they decided it wasn't worth keeping him here for his development.
That means unfortunately they must not think to highly of MLS as place to help develop their players for Europe.
As I wrote this out now I see how we won't benefit from our place in Red Bull's global structure and why they won't sign DPs for us.

Oh well nevermind.

Players are not owned by Red Bull in perpetuity. If Adams or anyone else wants to test wider waters they can say no and wait for their contract to end. It is up to Red Bull to make the Leipzig move attractive enough.

No one here is complaining about our solid pipeline of young homegrowns coming up to us from the academy. Why is that any different? They could ignore us and look elsewhere, but we have proved to be an organization that treats them well and has given them a great shot at playing time.

Truth is Adams was ready to make the jump now. It was not a Miazga move to Chelsea to be developed on loans. Adams is just that good and has a very high ceiling. RB Leipzig sells players to other teams and they will not sell all of our better RBNY players only to RBL.

We don't need young RBL players, what we need is the $ freedom to bring in more players wherever they may be from.

#1339884 Club America wants Kaku

Posted by Voice of Reason II on 30 January 2019 - 06:56 AM

From what i heard his agent is one of his good friends with no real experience in being a agent. Think that will be a problem down the road.

Down the road? He may have already done Kaku and RBNY a major disfavor. Will Kaku buckle up and play his heart out or will he sulk? Will the coaches go with him or will there be distrust and friction?

#1339883 So uh...

Posted by Voice of Reason II on 30 January 2019 - 06:52 AM

I'm gonna guess the typical 18 when everyone is healthy:

BWP

Royer Kaku Valot

Rza Davis

Taxi Long Parker Murillo

Robles

Meara Tarek Duncan/Lade Muyl Etienne Casseres White

In league play, this 18 should do pretty well.

Same team minus Adams. They knew once Jesse left that they were losing Adams and they didn't replace him nor add the extra chess piece to get us over the top? Sigh...I know,  :deadhorse:  material, but it just blows my mind. Yes, we will win games and make the playoffs, but I see no difference maker.

With players like him, absent injury, its going to be entirely dependent on his attitude and buy-in to our system.   He's an obvious improvement over whatever we have, and with guys like Duncan and Murillo covering ground behind him and overlapping, he shouldn't need blazing speed to be dominant in this league.

I just don't see him selling tickets.   It a can't win - if he sucks, he sucks, and if he's great, it just because MLS sucks.

That's my thinking, but we might need Grelladinho to grill him on his attitude  :P

Its all so absurdly obvious, I would love to get Armas off the record with a few beers and hear him explain how it could  be seen any other way.   This team is often compared to Liverpool... the lack of cups, the style of play, the budget....   but when Klopp proved what he could do, they finally opened up the purse strings to give him the missing pieces needed at CB and in goal.  You have to think the Armas/Marsch group has proven their ability to make the most out of what they are given, and have earned that last bit of investment needed to finally get it done.

I'll join you and slip the truth serum into his glass..

But maybe we can't handle the truth  :D
