baseball needed a juiced-up homerun chase to get fans back.

the nhl still has not recovered from their lost season in many markets.

and those are two established leagues :(

"If you are first you are first. If you are second you are nothing."

"I don't approve of your methods."
"Yeah, well... you're not from Chicago."

They should have guaranteed contracts.

Couldn't disagree more. You and I don't have guaranteed contracts. Why should a pro athlete? I think that guaranteed contracts are what hurts the NBA, NHL and MLB.

I hurts MLB the most. Denny Neagal, Mike Hampton, and Milton Bradley come to mind right away as some of the bigger flops.

Soccer is a different market than other jobs or even sports. If a player's contract isn't guaranteed then teams (or the league) shouldn't be able to block transfers to other teams.

Name one player with a non-guaranteed deal who's had a transfer deal blocked. The ones that have had deals blocked have all been guys that the league has committed to paying a full season to.

Nick Garcia is the last guy that should be allowed a voice for the players union. He just wants to get guaranteed contracts so that his dirty-ass isn't in a Canadian unemployment line. and include Wynne and you have 2 guys that were much hype with nothing to back it up so far.

The NFL Players Association would love that. The NFL would hate it.

I don't think you're lying, I just think this probably isn't true.

When players on an American club start talking strike then I'll listen.

Fuck Canada.

Isn't the standard MLS contract 2 guaranteed years and two option years. Although, I think they can all be dropped at any time before some arbitrary cut-off date.

I think they should raise the minimum, to keep less players from bypassing MLS entirely. Generation Adidas can't cover everyone.
"Dave Checketts and SCP Worldwide partners Dean Howes, Kenneth Munoz, Michael McCarthy and Chris Bevilacqua, chose Real Salt Lake for the team's name because they desired to associate the team with a successful soccer club, and "Fire" was already taken."

That's the players association's main point. Raise the minimum and get rid of the developmental contracts that pay only ~20k/year.

I don't think the Player's Association cares about the minimum actually. I think they care more about the maximum and getting the freedom to move overseas or within MLS.
