#1342996 What is Muyl good at?

Posted by Rybka on 17 March 2019 - 08:57 AM

It wasn't just the goals that he scored yesterday, his general play was more impressive. From the moment he entered due to Valot's injury, the game turned. He seemed to be a field general that organized the players into a team, similar to what Tyler Adams does. The 2 goals were just icing on the cake.

The other teams are doing it, and are therefore getting an advantage over us. Besides, RB has to balance the books and this will help.

Too bad the stadium will not be named for Arby's Restaurants, and be called "Arby Arena". That way RB could have its cake and eat it too.

If they're already burning jerseys now I'd hate to see what they do if his MLS campaign goes the same way his EPL campaign did.

General Sherman, please pick up a white courtesy phone.

The bottom line question is whether he will help us hoist the cup? Look, we want the cup. Does he help us get it?

Yahoo, Roku, Kaku, 0-2, all too confusing for me. I saw it on a PC and sports.yahoo.com was excellent.

I don't know if this is just the problem with my crappy phone, but the nyrb app drains my battery. It uses about 18% of the battery per day according to system info. I had to uninstall. Hope it's fixed.

Sets an all-time franchise record for assists in pre-season and is honored with the Kaku Memorial Award for future winners.

I don't think it is primarily the fault of the FO for soccer not being successful in the NYC area. It has to do with the sports culture, and the difficulty in changing culture. From February, when spring training starts to Oct/Nov, baseball is on all the sports pages and radio/tv sports news. NFL is also on from August on to the end of the year. The NYC area sports culture is MLB/NFL. Other sports get little slices of the pie- US open tennis, Stanley Cup, NBA playoffs. The bottom line is that no society likes to change its culture.

So why is that not the case in other USA cities? Because the other cities did not have the success in MLB that NYC had going back to the days of Babe Ruth. So why doesn't the immigrant population of the NYC area go for MLS, as is the case in other cities? Immigrants want to assimilate and the way to do that in the NYC area is to get involved in baseball because that is what people talk about here. In other areas, baseball is not dominant so it is easier to get into soccer and MLS.

Culture is stubborn. Likewise, baseball or NFL stand no chance of becoming popular outside of the USA (except where it has been accepted - Japan, Korea, Cuba, Venezuela and except for ex-pats), because the culture is different. So what it comes down to is that the Northeast MLS teams (NY, NE, PHI) are basically token franchises for tv purposes. Soccer is going to grow and grow elsewhere in the USA, but not here.

Worst would be someone taking the "L" train from Brooklyn to 6th ave, then switching to Path, for a weekend game. Have a good trip :(.

The less RB players the better. The US team is not going to change at the top, and it still will not win anything besides the Gold Cup on home soil. Going to these camps will lead to a line in your resume, a helpful pay check for a low-salaried player, and a possible injury.

#1337760 Who to root for in MLS Cup 2018?

Posted by Rybka on 08 December 2018 - 12:20 PM

I am surprised there is a debate on this. Yes, Gio is a former Metro ATG, but the key point here is former. Now he is with another organization, and there is a clear benefit in Atlanta winning for the current Metro: CCL qualification. Only 4 US teams qualify over the course of two years. This is a big honor and opportunity: last year we made semis. No MLS team has ever won this tournament, and we get a chance to be in it with Atlanta win. This is a no brainer here - Atlanta win is our ticket.

Use of LOGIC is expressly FORBIDDEN!!!

This team is a juggernaut. We need to
fill a few holes, but we do not need a makeover. RB2 keeps supplying talent, but we to have to look to SA for offensive punch. Kaku was a good first step.

I get wanting a player from that first RBNY2 championship to take PKs; that squad was lights out when it came to shootouts.  The PK wasn't great and the miss, along with the other ball he rocketed into the South Ward, mentally took Etienne out of the rest of the first half.  Credit to Armas for sticking with him and getting his confidence back up.  That said, I'm glad Royer looked healthy and should be good to go in the playoffs.

Also, Sean Davis had a great game.

After the pk miss, DE7 went into a state of depression. He did not hustle. He did not make runs. He laid back on defense. Any pass to him was simply returned to sender. For the last 15 minutes of the first half, Armas had Brian White, ALONE, warming up. If that wasn't a message to DE7, then what? I suppose Armas gave him a talking to at the break. Fortunately, DE7 came out like it was a new game and he came to play. He started hustling and contesting things like the rest of the team. The goal was incidental to his new attitude.
