When matched against competition of a similar nature, talent tends to win out. They're now playing teams that are a collection of college kids who practice infrequently, not professional teams months into the season.
And they've had at least another month of practice together and colleges are no longer in session for most.

The Red Bulls have their Under-23 team playing the National Premier Soccer League, but there is a possibility the side could wind up in USL PRO next year.
"As far as I know, it’s still very much in discussion," Red Bulls head coach Mike Petke said during his Tuesday conference call with the media. "It’s definitely not finalized yet or even guaranteed to happen. It’s definitely not a given. A lot of things go in to it. It’s not that easy. Red Bull has to invest a ton of money into doing something like, so that’s above my pay grade, those decisions.
"I give them my input, I think it would be great, but I think a lot of things would be great without having to fork over the money. So at the end of the day it’s going to be both a financial decision and a decision that’s based on if it’s best for us to do that to develop talent. At the end of the day I’m confident Red Bull will make the final decision."

With the way Petke keeps mentioning finances in regards to just about everything, I think it's pretty clear that Austria has tightened things up as far as the money goes.
And that sucks.

The point of having a billionaire owner is so you don't have to worry about this stuff. If the billionaire owner isn't going to pay to keep up with the Joneses... then...

100% agreed.
I know a bunch of people here are concerned about a lot of things when it comes to ownership but I really only care about a couple of things.
1. Spend to the maximum you are allowed
2. Be competent enough to hire the right people
When we watched guys like Bradley and Dempsey go to other teams in MLS, i began to worry. This is ultimately a New York/New Jersey team and I really hope they don't turn into a small market Colombus type of franchise.
