Croatia its own worst enemy, with unnecessary foul leading to OG & then the handball for a PK. Brilliant set piece for their goal, with 6 players involved.
VAR & PK took 5.5 minutes from initial call of goal kick, to kickoff after the PK. Good review, but the process needs to be much faster, or there should be 5+ minutes added on for this alone.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Don't care who won but would have been nice to see a new winner. Same 8 teams keep winning.

VAR made this WC better than the previous ones. It will never be perfect, but it was a step forward.

France played weakly today but won. I guess they had destiny on their side. And they are young.

Decent article, although anything that quotes Hope Solo needs to taken with a grain of salt...

I agree that pick-up culture as a great way to develop skills and talents. But, not all the skills and talents needed to succeed in professional sports. At some point, coaching and organized development are needed.
Also, most world-wide sports began as leisure activities for the wealthy, mostly British. Golf, tennis, soccer, rugby, cricket, badminton, perhaps even bowling. North American sports are exceptions or spin-offs. Hockey is Canadian, basketball was invented by a Canadian, baseball & football are variations on cricket & rugby. Not all have filtered down to the masses.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

It's a well-written article, is it not?

Congratulations to France on being the second country (behind Qatar) to qualify for the 2021 Confederations Cup.
