Danilo Di Luca confirmed positive for CERA.

ROME (AP)—Italian Cycling Federation says tests on Danilo Di Luca’s “B” sample have confirmed the former Giro d’Italia winner was positive for the banned blood-booster CERA at this year’s race.

The federation says in a statement Saturday it had forwarded the results of tests conducted by a Paris laboratory to Italy’s Olympic Committee to begin disciplinary proceedings against Di Luca.

He could be banned for up to two years. Di Luca has denied doping and has said he could leave cycling if banned.

The 33-year-old rider, who won the 2007 Giro, tested positive in blood samples taken May 20 and May 28 during this year’s race, where he won two stages and finished second.

The International Cycling Union has suspended him pending a disciplinary hearing.

Same old Italians, always cheating.

That's crazy.

I still expect at least George to be riding for Team The Shack.

Who knows about Levi though.

BMC bikes are cool.

No positive tests at TDF.

CORK, Ireland, Aug 23 (Reuters) - UCI president Pat McQuaid said on Sunday there had been no positive dope tests at this year’s Tour de France and looked to a drugs-free race being the future pattern.

McQuaid told Reuters: “At this point in time I haven’t heard of any positive tests at this year’s Tour de France or that we’re checking samples to confirm positives.

“It’s looking like the Tour de France will not have any positive tests for a number of years. I think that’s a big step forward for cycling.”

Men’s professional cycling has been blighted by doping scandals in recent years as blood and urine tests caught out riders using the blood-boosting drug erythropoietin (EPO).

Last year cycling became the first sport to introduce a revolutionary blood passport system that monitors athletes’ blood values rather than looking for a specific drug.

“It’s been a difficult moment for cycling because of the doping scandals but I think we’re coming out of it and going into a good period,” McQuaid said.

This year’s Tour de France was won by Spain’s Alberto Contador with seven-times winner Lance Armstrong finishing third after coming out of retirement.

McQuaid was speaking to Reuters at the Tour of Ireland where Armstrong rode the last race of his comeback season, pulling out on the last day.

Just because you don't get caught doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Hincapie signs with BMC.

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP)—American cyclist George Hincapie has signed a two-year contract with the BMC Racing Team.

The American-Swiss BMC team also announced Tuesday that it had signed world champion Alessandro Ballan of Italy and five other European cyclists.

The 36-year-old Hincapie is a three-time U.S. national professional road champion who rode the past two seasons with the Columbia-HTC team. He was part of Lance Armstrong’s team during his seven Tour victories from 1999-2005.

Honestly, I'm surprised he didn't sign with Lance's team.

Hincapie won the USA Cycling Pro Road Race Championship on Sunday.

Yeah I read that today too. I'm not surprised, after what happened in stage 14 of the tour...I don't care what Lance said.

And now there's this, Levi to ride with Lance's team.

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP)—Levi Leipheimer will ride once again with Lance Armstrong, signing a two-year deal with the seven-time Tour de France winner’s newly formed Team RadioShack.

Leipheimer confirmed the switch Tuesday.

“There were other possibilities, but I’ve signed with the best team in the world, an American team that’s going to sign more American riders,” he said.

His signing was first reported by ESPN.com.

Armstrong announced the new team in the waning days of this year’s Tour, where Leipheimer broke his right wrist just two miles from the stage 12 finish and was forced to withdraw.

He’ll return to competition Monday in the seven-day Tour of Missouri, which begins in St. Louis. And he’s already thinking about next year.

“The team will support me in the Tour of California (switching from February to May in 2010) and I will try to win for the fourth time,” Leipheimer said. “I’ll do the Dauphine Libere in June and then the Tour again in July. Those are my three favorites races and top my objectives for next year.”

I would have expected Levi to sign with a different team in order to get what is possibly his last shot at being team leader and winning the Tour.

Also, I'm glad the ToC switched from February to May, last year's weather was wretched.

It appears that DirecTV has been carrying the Vuelta a España on channel 604 this whole time.

Here I was following it via highlight reels on YouTube.
