The path to the Cup is not letting your best players leave each summer. Very simple concept.

So sign players that arent good enough for Europe and develop them, but not so much that they get good enough to draw interest from bigger clubs. Or, if they do draw interest, screw the player and force him to stay. Im sure Murillo will play with a lot of heart and passion after we hold him here against his will... Penny wise, pound foolish. Let him go and sign Olosunde.

Its the MLS schedule thats the problem. It sucks, but it is what it is. Its not like this happens every year anyway.

Thanks, but I was thinking all the MLS 1.0 transactions are kinda irrelevant to the discussion

Agreed, but it is instructive to point out that we have had the added curse of losing most of these players so early in their tenure here. we never seem to lose the Reams and Murillos after 3-5 years of service, almost always always sooner. That is life as a feeder league, but still frustrating nonetheless.

not exactly an official source, but the dude is usually kinda reliable. Really hope this doesn't happen, our depth is getting stretched as it is. Don't need a very solid defender leaving in the middle of the season.

Isn't that Twitter account like the complete antithesis of reliable?

It will start to happen more and more as the league gets better.

At some point the top MLS teams will have to decide whether to get the transfer fees and tank their seasons or hold onto their players. To swap Murillo for Oloslunde at this point in the season is a dumb move.

If Almiron leaves Atlanta this summer for example, their title hopes are in serious jeopardy. He is not immediately replaceable for them.

MLS can be a selling league, but at some point the teams must realize the goal is to win titles, not be a farm club for Europe. And if Murillo has to wait a bit longer -- too fucking bad.

Except when NYRB go to sign the next young South American player or are competing with NYCFC for an academy kid and that player sees youve prevented Murillo and others from going when they had the chance, that player is going to tell NYRB too fucking bad.

Whatever team wants Murillo will probably sign another right back over the summer and not need one in the winter. It not as simple as just waiting six months.

Murillo is a replaceable player. I like his offensive gifts, but Lade has been servicable at right back and we've seen glimpses of Kutler. Shame about the injury to Duncan, but to suggest we can't sell anybody midseason is simply the wrong attitude to take.

Team paid $500K to convert the loan and can now get $3 Million+ potentially is a significant win. What's not being considered is the replacement RBNY get for Murillo directly with that money and what else they get with the remaining money assuming it gets utilized.

How many outside backs have been sold for $3 Million or more in MLS history? Don't think there have been any. We're lucky more teams aren't calling for Kemar Lawrence who I believe is every bit worth the money teams are willing to pony for Murillo.

"Obviously, I want to make a living (in soccer), to say the least," he said. "There's so much you can accomplish in the soccer world, and right now I'm focused on having a good season with the Red Bulls. Ultimately, our goal is to win the MLS Cup, and I see no reason why we can't." - #4 Tyler Adams

I think the issue with Kemar is Jamaicas poor FIFA ranking, it makes getting Euro work visas difficult. Because youre right, hes every bit (and more) the player Murillo is.

Wish it wouldnt be till the end of the season, but thats good money, and Lade hasnt been terrible during the WC.

Keep on scouting players about to break through for Central American national teams and well keep getting gems like Murillo, Taxi, and hopefully Escobar.

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

I don't even understand the interest in Murillo. Yes he is skilled on the ball but his soccer instincts are not good and he is way below average defensively. I don't have to work hard to think of several games where his marking (or lack thereof) cost us goals. See last year's US Open Cup for example. How he got picked ahead of Taxi for the All Star game is a mystery. Taxi not only has on the ball ability but he has become an excellent tackler of the ball and defender. That's who PSV should want. So glad they don't. We would potentially miss Murillo on one end of the field but be better without on the other.

So your stance is to cave in to every demand from egotistical youth and ship players out midseason regardless of how the team is performing. You want no chemistry or continuity, because MLS.

Sounds like a real winning strategy! Lololol

Didnlt a lot of Murillo's defensive miscues come as a CB when we were paying three in the back last year?
