Danny Royer being targeted by Austrian club LASK Linz?

for the right price i'd sell anyone...as long as they are replaced adequately. This is probably one of if not the last year we would be able to sell Royer for any value before he diminishes.

If he came to the FO and said I want to go back to Austria I'd respect it but if not tell them 10 million or fuck off.

I used to be on board with selling high on guys and moving them a year too early rather than a year too late. But I've just lost faith on this organization being able to identify and replace lost talent.

It still drives me nuts the idiocy behind that mentality. You dont pass on signing a superstar because he doesnt press as well as a USL guy.
You pump as much talent as possible into the team and get a good coach to figure out how all the pieces work together.

Sell Royer in the summer.

The article just says that he was spotted in the area. He's Austrian and started his professional career just down the road from Linz, although he's not from the area.

Getting rid of the most productive player on the team is generally a bad idea. Even if the team had the will to go out and spend to replace Royer, it is far from a guarantee. Kaku cost a lot more than Royer but has yet to produce at the level Royer did last season. Even league record signing Pity Martinez didn't put up the numbers that Royer did last season.
Getting rid of Royer would signal the team is in fully season long rebuild mode and that it doesn't hope to compete next season.
I am not sure how anyone believes that the team would quickly replace Royer with an equal or better player. When was the last time this team got rid of a player and replaced him with a superior player in the same transfer window? When Royer replaced Lloyd Sam?

Can't disagree with much of that.
However, the likelihood of Royer regressing next season is also very high. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

While he was the most productive he had already regressed from the prior year. I think next year is simply a rebuilding year. If they can get quality bucks and enable a few difference makers I think they will do it.

We got some quality bucks for Tyler Adams. More than enough to get a couple of quality players. How did that work out?

Don't think there's a need in the MLS to have designated rebuilding years when you can get rid of bad contracts relatively easily, don't gain much from the draft, the salary cap is steadily increasing, and a team can be completely transformed by adding 2 or 3 key pieces. While he was the most productive he had already regressed from the prior year. If Austria refuses to spend and/or FO can't close on good players, it'll be a down year for sure, but calling it a "rebuilding year" when there's absolutely no need for one is a complete copout.
