Call it inviting bad karma, or superstition or whatever, but I'm just not okay with benching Meara for Robles in the final.

Somebody else said earlier in the thread, you gotta dance with the one who brought you.

Next home game after this final is against DC. Not to count the chickens before they hatch... but that'd be a party to bring the cup home in front of dead last DC.

You have to watch that kind of talk around here. I got blasted for suggesting it would be fun to ruin Philly fans' "No Cups" chant.

At #RBNY training. Daniel Royer participated in full training again today. Head coach Jesse Marsch weighing up Meara/Robles in net vs. PHI.

If Marsch plays Meara against Philly, it's definitely Robles against KC.

Marsch didn't say that.

He said Luis plays on Sunday. Hasn't decided yet on USOC final.

Meara has his moments... but that bad mistake in the Cincy game, just after we went up 3:2, when Tyler had to have a miracle clearance...

Never forget: caused by Zizzo stupidly giving up the ball seconds earlier.

Thanks, I started to put it together after.

Hartnett a bit rusty I guess.  Does a great job with the Rangers though.

Based on JM's interview I get the sense that Meara will play on wednesday, as it should be. Robles is better but I wouldn't mess with the cup mojo.
This post is dedicated to all the slow defenders of the world. Godspeed! my brothers

one thing we're forgetting is that Robles has given up a lot of soft goals this year...much more than past years.  If you compared Robles vs Meara last year, it's a no brainer that Robles is better. This year? Robles is still better, but not by as big a margin. Besides, you could have Neuer in goal for us....but with Zizzo and Perinelle in the back, even Neuer is going to let in some goals.

Meara has also won multiple penalty shootouts in the last two years.  SKC has a history of taking finals and playoff games to shootouts.

Robles is the far better shot stopper and distributor. Meara is better at controlling his box. That's my amateur take, anyways.

Don't give a fuck if De Gea is signed tomorrow, Meara starts.

I wonder if Benny Feilhaber will play or skip the game for religious reasons.

With that said, Mourinho played the backup Sergio Romero in the Europa League Finals over De Gea. The Europa League was the one title Man Utd had never won in their history and more importantly was their only avenue into the lucrative Champions League. Now Sergio Romero is no slouch but he is no David De Gea and with so much on the line, Mourinho stuck with the keeper who played the entire Europa League and he got the job done. Meara is our Romero and Robles is our De Gea. If a manager as ruthless as Mourinho didn't make the switch, I don't think Marsch should.

If we had Neuer, I'd start Meara in goal for the Open Cup Final and play Neuer at CB. I'm sure he'd be better than most of our other options.

And the great thing is that it was never a question, Jose said give him the nod from the start that it was his tournament.
