Sounds like we could be back in action in about a month....seems like a good opportunity to make a change and restart

Baseball starts in a matter of hours and the Blue Jays don't have a home and the players/owners are negotiating over expanding the playoffs.  I thought these sorts of shenanigans only happened in MLS!

Lol ...to not make the knockout round after starting with a win over Atlanta ...just, wow

What the absolute FUCK is royer doing taking a shot from 30 yards out through traffic?

Guess he is out of ideas. Doesnt look like the team has any. Mediocre talent, shoehorned into a formation they arent well suited for, coached by a manager who is in over his head.

For the gamblers, Red Bulls to win is +100 on Fanduel ....not a bad number against arguably the worst team in the league (granted, I think a draw sees us through to the knockout stage, but I'd imagine the team still wants 3 points for regular season purposes)

Well, to be fair, we probably decided he was too old/expensive and too big of an injury risk after basically missing a season at age-34.

Just like many in the fanbase.

I personally can't wait to see his LAFC salary for this season.

I'm already prepared to be furious

Agreed. Overall, I think their current team ratings are pretty fair (with Miami being the one big exception). I could nitpick a couple smaller things, but it seems like a fair ranking. I cut them some slack for Miami, having no real data to derive from, but it does seem unusually aggressive. Prior to them playing a game, to me, that did not scream of a roster that would produce a successful expansion campaign. But, I'm often wrong and am basing that purely on gut feeling, not analytics.

Yeah I'd be curious to know specifically what they see in their numbers.  Their analytics look particularly strong when it comes to the defense...I think they're tied for 2nd behind only Real Salt Lake, if I'm interpreting the numbers correctly.  Maybe Luis Robles is an analytics darling?  I can't find where they had us ranked last year to this year to see if there's a drop (granted, we also lost Lawrence and replaced him with an unknown, so that would play into a drop).  Some of Miami's defenders seem to have potential, but I don't see anything that would justify such a good ranking.

It is too bad the structure of this tournament is so forgiving...I would love to be dancing on the graves of NYCFC and Atlanta right now

So nice going into this game with 3 points in the bag off Atlanta

#1366474 Was the return of MLS a good experience?

Posted by acesfull86 on 09 July 2020 - 01:15 PM

I watched, but was not overly invested in the first two games. But, that's not too dissimilar from my usual level of investment in regular season MLS games not involving metro. I'll be better able to answer the question after we play on Saturday. I wasn't bothered by the advertising or adidas logo. MLS absolutely should be trying to maximize ad revenue during the tournament. I think the quality will gradually increase during the 2nd and 3rd round of games and fan interest/investment will increase when teams start playing elimination games. A perfectly fine start..

Yeah I agree with that.  Sure I was underwhelmed with Orlando/Miami, but would I have cared even under normal circumstances?  Without betting on it, probably not.

I have no doubt once the RBNY game starts, I'll be as invested as always.  And as you said, when the outcomes have clearer implications, it will be easier to get into the games.
