#1353315 5 games left

Davis isnt a 6 and cant play the 6 with any effectiveness, especially as a lone d-mid. He doesnt cover the ground, and lacks the stamina to do it. Our MF gets overrun now with the RZA/Davis pairing, that would be a catastrophe.

This team needs to sign an advanced destroyer in the winter, I think CCJ is our best 8 for as long as he is here, but he isnt a direct replacement for Adams.

We've played with Davis in that exact same position and nothing was overrun.  We just got away from the formation when Long had to play for the Nats.

Yep... It just doesn’t connect with players obviously.   Just hoping we don’t waste part of next year on Armas too.  Has to be fired after this season.

I wouldnt be shocked. All it takes is a good run of form at the right time. Now that it is single elimination, could see even more variance.

Not to suggest I am happy with the transfer window...

Meh... I'm a big believer that it's possible to go on a run, but there's been nothing from the team this season that suggests it's possible.

We are just a 500 team playing 500 soccer.  Sometimes good, sometimes bad but ultimately just mediocre.

Unless that Sims is miraculously a superstar then this season was just a bad year.

#1351697 So now what's the ideal XI (and subs) from late August on?

Posted by Komba on 14 August 2019 - 04:01 PM

Hey heres an idea: Drop the fucking system and just sign guys and coaches that are going to win you a championship.

Systems...what a load of crap.

Everyone has a system.  The best coaches in all of sports.  Coaches tweak their systems to fit certain players, but it's always their system.

We haven't been able to win consistently all year so I don't see that changing much.  THe changes have seemingly helped though.  Ditching Murillo and involving CCJ more are definitely positives.

I would go with the exact same lineup.  Only question is BWP vs White.

Etienne's tweet a little while ago.

Up until very recently, a strong attacking on option on the right was universally considered our biggest need.

Virtually everyone agreed that Muyl wasn't ideal, and Valot was questionable coming off injury, and not elite anyway.    We lost Adams but still had the best defense in the history of the universe, and Rza was reasonably expected to slot in there as an at least decent backfill.

Had we made this move pre-season, it would have been very well received.    The fact that Murrillo has fallen off a cliff and Rza has proven not to be a strong #6 doesn't change the fact that we needed an upgrade here.

I don't know why suddenly some people are running with this idea that we didn't need a RM.  Until you have a clear starter at a position like that, it's a need.  We still don't have a clear starter there and Muyl is not everyone's first choice.  I would probably use Rza there but that's not the clear solution either.

The biggest need was outside back and they signed Buckmaster.  Not what I would have done, but whatever . It was their pick.

Would have signed a 6 as well, but CCJ is pretty damn good when he plays and Armas just needs to play him.

Have no issue with Etienne being gone.  Not a huge fan of him.  Hasn't done much and the numbers support that.  Will do something fancy occasionally but that doesn't matter. Just matters whether the player creates or scores goals in his position.

I'll root for the dude, but I don't see him making it work at a high level in MLS outside of the occasional great play.

I'd like to see what this lineup could do. Etienne is less of a running-onto-the-ball winger than he is a playmaker, and hes built more for the middle of the field than Kaku.

I don't see the point of doing that.  Going by the stats on this site, statistically Etienne hasn't done as much as Omir and even Ivan.  If you're going to try something different with those 3 midfielders, then go with Omir at that middle spot.

Personally, I'd play Rza at that spot.  Not because he's some great passer or anything, but because he causes issues with his defense.  I wish I could see the results when he plays higher up the field, but it almost always feels like the team plays better.

Plus Davis and CCJ are just a better combo together.  CCJ is a ball winner and should be on the field.

Two more goals will have him in double digits and there is a good chance the MLS season could finish with White as the league’s leading American goal scorer under 30 years old.

In that perspective, a call-up to the national team for January camp becomes an entirely realistic goal – even if White insists he is not thinking about it.

Oh agree.  I don't know how much more we can expect as far as production goes from a different striker.  And that's the big reason I'm not really interested in picking one up.  We need a 6 and depth at LB and RB.

If we go with the 3-3-3-1 formation, then we need a 4th CB as well because Nealis aint it.

If you are paying $2 million for a player in MLS, he better be a key player from the onset.

This I just disagree with. If you bring in a guy like him because you think he's going to explode in the next year or two where in the future you know you'll never even have a chance at getting him, then you go ahead and do it.  You hope he makes a big impact right away but that's not the way sports work sometimes.  Next year is the meaningful year for him in my opinion.  BWP will be gone and it's a battle between White and Jorg for that spot.

There are many ways to motivate... But given what we've seen, Armas isn't good at it.  Players are doing stupid things on the field and we start slow consistently.  Almost every guy on the field is playing worse than they have in the past and age isn't to blame with everyone but BWP.

After what Armas said tonight about Tarek starting over Taxi, it's very clear he should be fired.  It just means he doesn't know what he's looking at and that means everything.

He's clearly not good at motivating players(all of our slow starts) and instilling discipline (all of the reds) but making it obvious that you don't know what you're looking at means you aren't a good coach.

I said basically from early on that when Marsch left it would be an awful day for the franchise but I was hopeful that the drop-off wouldn't be so severe.  He's gotta go.  We aren't winning anything with him.

Remember when we made such a big deal when Mathis scored his 45th goal to break Gio's record? Royer has 42 now.

Dude has been our best player this season.  Total warrior.  I'm a big fan.

Armas appreciating that CCJ is better than RZA at DM or duel 8 with Davis.  RZA a good player is also inconsistent and only puts up a good match every 3 or so games and is a good 8/10 hybrid rather than a 6.  This is the more important choice than RW.  RW seems to be Myuls to lose especially after last week  - although remember Omir started CCL over Myul who didn't even make the trip.

I do agree about that with Rza being inconsistent.  There are games where he's one of the best players on the field and there are other games where he's in the bottom 5.

I do think some of his best performances come when he's in one of those offensive mid positions though.  He just makes things so hard on the opposing team defensively because he's amazing at sniffing out plays.  Presses extremely well because he has good athleticism.
