How about Lade's work leading up to that?

Kid has been so much better than folks on this board have given him credit for.

I didn't think he had that kind of long ball in his arsenal, great play by him. His first game back was a rough one which is where most of the criticism stemmed from, but both Lade and the complaints have settled down over the last few games.

He is essentially the same quality as Duvall.  Definitely not worse.  Hopefully there's an upgrade next year, but for now he's as good if not better than Duvall has been.

He was quite a handful against Philly in the Open Cup game. They didn't have an answer for him. Unfortunately the result did not reflect his contribution.

Yes, he's capable of having a good game out of 10 (as is Lade).  It's an area that needs improvement for next year with Duvall healthy or not.

Sometimes young players improve if you keep giving them a chance to play through their mistakes, and you give them great coaching, and you give them a stable team around them.

Lade will always have shortcomings as a 1-v-1 defender, but he's wonderful positionally and he's smart on the ball. There's a reason Thierry loved him - he makes it easier for the wingers to play higher and more aggressively. Reminds me a lot of Wingert.

I am in the minority in that i like Lade as a FB more than ANYWHERE else on the field.   He's not great there, but it's the only place that really masks his weaknesses in attack and sloppy passing. (and yes, I've always said Lade's long passing is far far better than making a pass to someone 2-10 feet away from him)   Again I don't think either him or Duvall are nec. starting FBs, but as depth/spot starting there are far worse.  Also 26 and 24 aren't really that young in terms of playing soccer, TBH.

i'm ok with one of Lade/Duvall being kept as a backup, but having both is redundant.  We're better off having a veteran league RB starting, with Duvall/Lade backing him up, and maybe McLaws or another RB2 player as the utility backup.

Nah, Duvall is the future. His form right before the injury showed glimpses of what's to come. Fuckin pointless 5050 ball at the end of the Cosmos game...

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

From the SB Nation Philthy Blog:

3. Giving Shaun Wright-Phillips too much respect.

I don't think Shaun Wright-Phillips is that good a player. I never have. He is certainly fast, however I have never thought his decision making was elite, and the only reason he had as top level a career he did is because of his speed and relationship to Arsenal legend Ian Wright. He is now older, more injury prone, and will not be as fast as when he started.

That being said, no matter how good a player is, they can produce when shown too much respect. Think back to how well Sebastien Le Toux and Andrew Wenger played when the Portland full backs gave them too much room. I don't think Raymon Gaddis even tried to tackle SWP once. Ethan White was so mesmerized by his play that he watched asBradley Wright-Phillips lost him and scored the second goal. That's not good enough for professionals playing in the highest league in the country.

I'm sure Warren Creavalle is the future for TFC too (granted Creavalle is actually better than Duvall, and that's really saying quite something).

Agree with most of that honestly.  I'm not going to go over the top on 1 30 minute performance against a really bad team.  That said, if he can produce the same quality at a 1 in 3 clip off the bench or starting, that's really a very good outcome of this.  Cautiously optimistic based on the debut, but we'll see.  His speed is still a huge issue and it is really what he made his career on so that it's still pretty much there that's fantastic.
