#1357188 New captain?

Posted by Sasa Curcic's Watch on 23 November 2019 - 11:44 PM

From a purely sporting perspective, I actually agree with the moves.

- Ryan Meara is a starter quality keeper. Younger and makes a lot less money. He's impressed any time he has gotten the chance. It is time for him to take over the position.

- BWP's age caught up with him. By the end of last year, he was our 3rd chose striker behind White and Barlow. It was time to move on.

From an emotional standpoint...this hurts. This really hurts. Its the end of an era. We should have won a Cup with these guys but we never did. 3 Shields to show for it though. And a lot of memories. Time to re-build and create a new era of Metro legends

I agree, more so especially with BWP.

I also understand the thinking behind moving Robles but that move I'm more iffy about. We didn't want to have so much cap space tied up in two gk's so we went with the younger guy, very logical. I just think that we're gonna lose a lot of veteran leadership with Robles gone and it's gonna be nearly impossible to replace. And I think he has at least a few high caliber years left if he wants to continue playing. I definitely expect him to be a starter somewhere next year in MLS.

#1356960 Royer targeted by LASK Linz?

Posted by Sasa Curcic's Watch on 20 November 2019 - 12:36 PM

Royer is not a question mark, hes proved he can consistently contribute for a few years on end now. It's not time to trade a certain contributor and a key piece for uncertainty.

We know the RB model is to get rid of a player a year early rather than a year late but I don't think that it's that time for Royer yet. And when we did it before we had a plan - Adams replacing Dax or Kaku coming in for Sacha. There's no one in our pipeline to replace Royer's production. Let's focus on improving the weak areas in our roster rather than moving something that is working.

I like Serhiy Buletsa, Erling Haaland and Quincy Promes... I say it's time they start splashing the kind of money Atlanta has been and some...

Just say Messi already

#1356041 NYCFC is owned by slavers

Posted by Sasa Curcic's Watch on 23 October 2019 - 08:40 PM

Only caught the last 15 mins (and the earlier goals on replay). Seemed an even game, and possession/shots all favour NYCFC, and TFCs goals were gifted by terrible defensive mistakes.

Lalas is saying in the postgame that NYCFC were terrible and TFC were great. Sounds like he's talking based on the outcome rather than the actual play on the filed. Anyone watched/care to comment?

TFC dominated until the finally scored. Had a lot of chances but only got the first goal on a nycfc brain fart. TFC proceeded to sit back a little too deep and NYCFC pushed for the equalizer which they got. Then a little more even to finish the game out.

Fuck nycfc and their backup baseball field. Watching the game through netting on a ridiculous camera angle is worse than anything we've ever seen in MLS, name anything you want nfl lines, astroturf whatever. This was worse.

#1353912 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

After the Seattle loss, I'm already looking forward to the house cleaning and thinking of new candidates to be the new coach.

#1351527 Ivan released

Posted by Sasa Curcic's Watch on 12 August 2019 - 09:15 PM

Huh, sure, but why? Do we get any meaningful savings by releasing him this late in the season?

I get that he didn't set the world alight, but why not keep him for the run-in? Muyl was recently injured, Omir has a slight build, and Etienne is on a loan. I guess Sims better come through quickly.

Wishful thinking, but maybe also Armas considering a change of shape. And in addition, he'd probably play Rzat at winger with Casseres, Davis, and Kaku in the middle. And it looks like they'll throw Sims right into the fire.

#1351518 Ivan released

Hearing per a source that Andreas Ivan has been released by RBNY

Hey would you look at that. The Ivan era is over. How will you remember him? I will as a woefully disappointing addition to the best team in our history last year, where more of an impact player might've taken us to the promised land. And a player who's salary didn't match his level of a prospect with some talent.

#1351063 Etienne tweets about snakes... then gets loaned out

Posted by Sasa Curcic's Watch on 07 August 2019 - 08:17 PM

Does anyone really care if he is? It's not like he's an untradeable player or a game breaker every week.

He has flashes of brilliance here and there but that's about it.

I think most of us would be upset becuase we'd be getting rid of a homegrown guy instead of getting rid of a guy like Ivan who is nothing special and making big money.

But it is a numbers game here. There are only so many spots and we have Muyl, Sims, Etienne, Ivan, Fernandez, and Royer. Not enough spots on the field to keep them all happy.

#1350690 EPL Interest in Aaron Long

Posted by Sasa Curcic's Watch on 04 August 2019 - 11:50 AM

If it's his goal to play in the EPL as he's been quoted, then why did he sign a new contract just 5 months ago?  He can't have it both ways.

Signed a new contract so he can start making some real money instead of making barely 6 figures. And the reason he is on the radar of European clubs has to do with him becoming a regular with the USMNT and he only really solidified his place under Berhalter this year.

Full week rest, at home, playing against a non playoff team, have to take advantage.

#1349817 New 2020 RBNY Jersey - Black?

Posted by Sasa Curcic's Watch on 22 July 2019 - 07:35 PM

Fuck that. Can't we keep some continuity here with the red and white colors please. There's enough teams in MLS who have black as the primary color, let them have it.

Two things -

1) All things considered - I'll take the point.

2) Fuck Atlanta

Phenomenal effort especailly defensively. Can't even think of one real great scoring opportunity for ATL. Even if it took some last ditch defending Robles didn't have to make many saves. Great team effort to have that happen while playing a man down for so long.

Hopefully this is the type of win that catapults us to some more momentum and we can start making up some ground in the standings.

Also, fuck Atlanta.

Yet De Rossi was still out there handling business....

Same for Ribery... I want Ribery and Robben ans De Rossi... Next someone is gonna sy they'd rather start Etienne or Omir over Ribery or Robben?!?!

We have different definitions of handling business. The track record shows that older guys who you can't categorize as athletic anymore don't cut it in this league. De Rossi's legs have gone. Once that goes he's got nothing left.

No Etienne and Omir are obviously not better but there is something to be said to for sticking to your philosophy of building and developing your youth. When foreign clubs do it we applaud them but when we try we have to spend on a retread who can't stay healthy. Robben and RIbery can't stay on the field any longer for a prolonged period of time. Robben may still have something left in the tank to contribute in the Dutch league but to get him here he ain't coming cheap. And there's a reason that Ribery is being linked to play in the middle east and Australia. We should be more creative with our signings. Not sitting on our hands either that's where our frustration lies. But we say hell no to any older guy coming here for one last payday.
