#1357501 Official: Robles to Miami

Posted by General Robles on 02 December 2019 - 11:28 PM

BTW I don't think there is a debate for all time RB/Metro gk rankings - Robles is at the top of the list.

No question, in my opinion.

I hate TFC, but fuck Atlanta. Very happy to see that result.

How does LAFC have so many fans? Hard to imagine people weren't LAG fans given how good they've always been. I guess outside looking in people wouldn't understand how NYCFC got more fans unless they lived here

Same concept as NYCFC fans here. LAFC plays in downtown LA, the Galaxy play in the outskirts.

Atlanta wins 2-0 to advance to and host the ECF. Finally, a break for that tortured fanbase.

#1356056 NYCFC is owned by slavers

This was really nice to see. I had a bad feeling the stars were aligning for them to host and win MLS Cup this year. Instead they crash out immediately at Citi Field. Brings a smile to my face.

Yea let's compare us to the Colorados and Cincinnatis instead of setting the standard. So many apologists here and the biggest issue is not the results but the decline in play, attendance, creativity, effort and mostly responsibility for the whole situation this team is in. It's the little things that add up and disappoint rather than the fact that we lost a playoff game that was there for the taking and finished 6th in a weak eastern conference while playing ugly.

I dont think the opposing viewpoints are mutually exclusive. I think you can be critical of the direction of the club, while simultaneously having an appreciation for the relative successes of the club in the second half of their existence compared to the first half of their existence. Thats where I stand, at least.

#1356024 Was this last game for Robles as #1 goalkeeper?

I see no reason to move on from Robles and I honestly wouldn't move on from BWP just yet. I wouldn't keep all my eggs in one basket but this year isn't a fair indicator for either

100% agree. I know this club operates on a shoestring budget, but Robles at his current salary is still a bit of a bargain.

I don't think it's shameful at all. I just prefer to hold professional soccer players to a higher standard than "tries really hard". This is more of an indication on American soccer culture in general - fast running, hard working players are more valued than skillful ones. It's affecting soccer at all levels, starting in the youth ranks, and I guess reflects fan perceptions as well.

What? You are creating a commentary and connecting it to a broader narrative that is just not fitting to this thread.

#1355826 What would it take for Red Bull to sell?

Posted by General Robles on 21 October 2019 - 06:39 PM

So you think MLS would be fine with frequent 5k crowds at Red Bull Arena, if it got to that point?

What other club in the league is adding tarps to their stadium?

We dont get 5k crowds, nor will we. Our attendance is nothing to be proud of, but that is a gross exaggeration and one founded in pessimism and frustration. I certainly dont blame you for the pessimism and frustration, I feel the same, but we also need to stay grounded in reality. Take a look at some of the situations around the league. We are far from being on the chopping block, if MLS were to step in on any clubs.

I could see the league getting involved in a couple years if Red Bull continue with this zero spending, zero excitement approach. You can't have a pro sports team in this area drawing less than 5k fans a game, and that is where Red Bulls are heading (if they aren't already getting close).

NYCFC don't draw amazing either, but they will probably win an MLS Cup this season or within the next few and they will get out of Yankee Stadium for a place of their own eventually. Long-term, they will solidify themselves as the marquee soccer team in this area and be fine.

The league doesn't want another Chivas situation happening with Red Bulls. Something will give.

No. That is utterly ridiculous. You suffer from cognitive distortion if you think our club is anywhere near territory of the league stepping in or in a comparable situation to Chivas.

#1355665 You know...

It actually made me pretty happy last season when RBNY won the Supporters Shield. Everybody was so angry about it at the time that I was banned from posting on the forum for the entire playoff season. Now this season, RBNY didn't win any trophies at all and people feel exactly the same way they did last season when the team won something. You eventually get to the point where you wonder what exactly is wrong with this team's fanbase, which is why I chose not to pay much attention at all to the team for this past season. Getting banned for over a month for supporting the team taught me a lot about the nature of the community that surrounds it.

I hope everybody reaches deep down, thinks rationally, and considers what being a fan of any sports team is supposed to actually be about: Having some fun with friends and family watching something enjoyable, celebrating the victories, feeling a bit disappointed about the defeats, and then feeling hopeful about the next chance for victory when the next season begins.

Anything less than that would make a person think that maybe the problem isn't with the team.

The problem isnt with the fan base, either. Observe any other fan base in the world of sports and you will see the same elements bubbling up. It is the nature of sports fandom and the human condition, in a broader scope. Every single fan base has an aggrieved contingent. You could read a Yankees forum and a certain segment would lead you to believe theyre the most tortured fan base in the world.

#1355145 Murillo burned bridges

Posted by General Robles on 12 October 2019 - 03:15 AM

I remember ppl defending Murillo constantly over this past season comparing his mistakes to other players in the XI, but on SR it was said that Murillo burned every bridge. Ya kinda have to laugh at that sorta shit, all that vitriol defending Murillo, only to find out this BTS stuff.

Well done, everybody. :D  This off season's gonna be MOTHERFUCKING hilarious.

Very few actually defended him. It was pretty much universal opinion that hes been awful this season. There were some, myself included, who said he should continue to start because he has the highest ceiling of our options and the rest of our options at the position offer very little at the moment.

i just bought a ticket via the ESC site. How do we pick up if we're not going on the bus? Do we meet at the stadium? Or is it emailed?

Ticket distribution is TBD. You'll be notified via e-mail once it's determined.

What's the process to get 2 (potentially 3) seats in the visitors section? Don't need a bus or transportation, just tickets

#1354961 Metro - Montreal Game Thread

Posted by General Robles on 06 October 2019 - 10:15 PM

As bad (or indifferent) as we all feel after today, I thought about how awful the hysteria would be around here if we controlled our own destiny for home field and blew it because we couldnt crack the worst team in the league, at home, playing with 9 men, like DC did today. That gave me a little smile. Then I quickly reverted back to realizing how we could have capitalized on that and the smile faded.
