I dont think that counter-attacking or high pressing is controlling a game.

Every team wants to control the game.

Well then clearly not EVERY team wants to control the game, because many teams want to play a counter-attack or a high press.

If a team is successful at playing the game on their terms, I would consider that controlling the game.

thoughts on RBNY being dead last in completed passes in 2018 and the Union being dead last this season.

Not completing passes means you do not control the game.
Why do we even play around the back or out of it?
Perhaps Coronel should just blast every kick long up the middle, hoping that one or two Route One chances will be converted every game? Same for every turnover.
What game was it where we did this the entire time?
Everyone thought it was ridiculous.
Well, perhaps not you.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Cool well I'm happy with the other team "controlling the game" if it means we win a lot.

You can play out if the back AND play direct, which wouldnt necessarily mean winning the possession battle.

Ok so then I don't know what point you're trying to make. We have had fewer passes than other teams in games this season. So what? Why should anyone who wants the team to win lots of games this season care?

The red bull way is anti possession. They want to suffocate the other team on their side of the field. They want to create as many transition moments as possible.

I know that. I was replying to:

But when they create those transition moments, there has to be a player or four willing to pass precisely/accurately to the striker who buries the chance or lays it off to an attacker than can bury the chance.

That is obvious.

You forget your previous comments & claims.

my claim was that we dominated other teams in teams. You decided that opposition center backs passing back and forth to each other in their own half means that they were actually outperforming us.

Which is demonstrably incorrect.

Do you actually watch the games?
It is our players passing it around the back,
not the opposition.

We do pass it around the back a bit. Nealis doesnt have the cajones to play a pass into the midfield, either sideways to Long or Edwards, back to Coronel, or a hoofball to nowhere.

If Reyes was healthy hed probably be on the bench in a 4 man back line.

We are third-lowest in all of MLS by short passes attempted this season. We are 5th in MLS in passes that directly lead to a shot. We are second to last in passes on the ground and fifth in passes that are above shoulder height. You are just making shit up.
