This championship fetish in US sports has gotten ridiculous.  (especially in this case with the 2 Supporters Shields.)

BWP will retire as one of the best strikers in MLS history with the team record for goals scored.

I'm all for building him a statue after he retires, right next to the one of Thierry 'Henrying.'

As much as I enjoy the shield wins, I was there for both, it's not like the schedule is balanced and we didn't run away with either. Both had to be clinched on the final day and then we proceeded to bomb out in the playoffs in absolutely miserable fashion against a horrible Houston team in 2013 and were a complete joke in the conference finals in 2015 that we blew the series like 10 seconds into the first fucking game. Until the format is set for the shield to be the championship MLS Cup is still what it's all about.

Maybe my standards are higher because of the Devils but if you don't win a championship you don't get your jersey in the rafters or a statue outside. Personally I wouldn't want it any other way.

Stop right there! Do not qualify the Shield wins! They are the standard by which much of the world determines championships.

I was there for both

So was I. Can you forget the pure joy in the SW?

Some people are never satisfied.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

It is what it is, there's hardly anything more ignominious in American sports than a team "winning" the regular season, #1 seed, President's Trophy, what-have-you, and flaming out in the playoffs.

On the actual topic, I'd certainly have no problem per se with a BWP statue and no Cup, but I think that kind of locks us in as sort of small-time. Like that would be a way of saying "this is as good as it's gonna get for us, club legend with a few near-misses," like giving a guy like Matt le Tissier a statue outside St. Mary's.

Honestly yes to both because we couldn't even host a damn MLS Cup Final out of either year. Also no matter what the rest of the world does the shield does not determine the championship. Would I want to win it every year? Sure but I want the MLS Cup more. Until the league changes the format and says the shield is the real championship then I'll change my mind.

None of the 4 major leagues nor the MLS have a balanced schedule of playing every team equally so why would anyone consider a regular season title the overall championship?

Only Europeons that want MLS to be like all the other European leagues think that way. Just accept that MLS is the MLS.
