He received the trophy for the Castrol Index Top Player on Thursday afternoon and it made an immediate impression.

“It's good. It's a bit bigger than I thought. It's massive. That's what she said,” Wright-Phillips told BigAppleSoccer.com.

Wright-Phillips stopped and smirked for a moment then laughed. He's not just scoring goals, he's cracking jokes.

This quote had me smiling, but it also got me thinking -- there's got to be a ton of juicy quotes made over the years by players/staff (half of which probably originate from the "MetroFanatic Goes To Media Day" interviews), but there is no thread to document them.

Think the Favorite Moses/JonnyG Quote Thread, except a lot less shameful.

The great football philosopher Mike Ammann once said "You can't teach people things if they're not smart enough to learn. The NBA has a team like us: It's the Clippers. Now I know what it's like to play for them. You can't teach someone something if they don't have a brain. If it's a dumb dog, you can teach it and teach it and it's not going to learn.''

"PUSSYCAT LEAGUE."

Is there any in this rout with authority to treat with me? Or indeed with wit to understand me?

Lol. I was there for that one, Sauron. BTW, Ammann was 1999. Ten years later, we got this tirade, when Leo Krupnik asked a hard-nosed defender who he thought he was, and promptly got put on his arse. "Who the f**k do you think you are? Who am I? Who the f**k are you? Twenty f**king games without a win, and first day this guy comes in here breaking my balls? F**k you!"  Oh, and if anybody can't guess who the defender is, I just can't help you. You're hopeless.

"Esse, I shoot, I score, we win?" as a limping Peter Vermes hobbles to take a running PK in the old shootout days in 96.

Esse Baharmast was the ref.

Peter Vermes was the legend.

Adolfo Valencia: "He thinks he knows what he's doing but he doesn't. He's shit*," referring to Octavio Zambrano sometime in 2001 (or was it 2002?), while gimping his way out of Giants stadium in an exclusive conversation with yours truly. ^_^

Won't find this one in the papers, but it's my personal favorite.

Before the half of an April 2007 game against Houston, Mathis is shown a very questionable yellow for what I believe was assumed to be a high kick. Since he barely played a half, he then ended up playing in the reserves game afterward. Plays about 50 minutes of that, and gets subbed off. He comes over to chat with us few fans that stuck around. I asked him what the deal was with the straight red from the ref. His response:

"Ehh, he doesn't know what the fuck he's looking at."

Fucking, Legend.

I'd rather die than live in a world where I can't kick your ass.

Head coach Mike Petke teased about Henry playing on turf on Wednesday and what preparations – if any – might look like to get his star ready for the plastic pitch.

"He's sleeping in a hyperdermic air chamber for a week now," Petke said. "We've replaced his mattress with the same exact turf as at Gillette Stadium. And we've had a psychiatrist come in and when he's sleeping, he whispers 'Turf is wonderful' in his ear for every night."
