#1344036 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

Posted by Grelladinho on 08 April 2019 - 03:52 AM

Got to look to the terrible passing Armas doesnt pass the ball or leave a player WIDE OPEN AT THE 17 or cause the ball to take 2?lucky bounces- that being said we look disjointed and anemic in the attack.
Stop forcing Jorgensen in let him develop at RB2
Play Omir

Jorgensen was the marquee offensive signing going into this year. Therefore he can't be with RB2. He needs to be banging in goals with the first team.

If he can't do that now, I don't know why they signed the kid then. The window to win is now, not when BWP leaves.

Yeah I can maybe buy that but I should have been more clear and said that there is no way in hell that we average 20k a game. If we actually averaged that many people there would be no reason to close so many sections this year and do whatever these "upgrades" are.

If de Grandpre is going to say ridiculous things like this someone needs to ask him why 6-7k of that 20k sold/distributed number (if it's even true) refuse to show up for the entire season.

Does he believe thousands of casuals buy seats every game and don't show up? How about STH? Are there many thousands of those they ship gift packages to before the season starts, who then fail to appear at Red Bull Arena at all? He has to believe something along those lines if he is going to claim there the average is 20k.

Written formations like 4-2-3-1 don't actually mean much, you can play an incredibly wide variety of ways from the same basic starting shape. Here's an awesome post by a coach on Reddit that talks about this stuff a little more. Marsch ran the attack almost exclusively through the middle of the field, Armas goes mostly down the right side through Murillo. Marsch would literally set a shot clock for the team to get a shot on goal as quickly as possible, Armas prefers to actually keep some possession in the final third. Stuff like that completely changes how a team would approach us defensively.

Does any coach ever actually instruct their team to shoot from distance? This one's definitely not just you Grelladinho, seen this pop up from a bunch of fans since last season. It sounds odd that you'd prefer your guys take low-chance shots. Reminds me of the guy who bought Cardiff City in England a few years ago and asked why guys weren't shooting from midfield.

Thanks for the Reddit link, will delve into it later.

You are right about how coaches can deploy the same formation differently --- I think overall though I would like Armas to experiment with two forwards, or a few others to play farther up the field with BWP.

As for low percentage shots, doing those is better than not shooting at all. You could tell in the Orlando game that the approach wasn't working, yet they continued to play through Duncan and pass the ball around, or lob it to BWP and leave him alone up there. Davis and Rza have scored from distance before. Why should players like them not shoot more? Any deflection could help.

Didn't Kljestan say something when he first went to Orlando about Red Bull Arena being quiet or now getting to play in front of louder fans? I'm pretty sure he did, can't find the article though

Note to Santos supporters. Dont remove your shirt if youre a fat out of shape pig. Its a bad look.

Don't you mean the "traveling" Santos supporters?

I laughed when the announcer said that.

We should pin this post too. People talk about that nonsense all the time. It rarely matters.

It kinda does bury that argument, doesn't it.

Murillo has been fucking terrible today.

He's been pretty awful since the world cup.

Happy with Ivan so far though. If he can continue to contribute that will be a huge lift, considering many of us, myself included, wrote him off going into this season.

I mean I do expect to win MLS Cup.

Soccer in general within 90 mins has huge variance, we have shown over 34 matches we are the best team in the last 5 or whatever seasons. We beat ATL in 3/4 matches last year and came up short in the playoffs. I am not happy about this but it happens, no team on earth wins every match. And with a strange MLS Cup mechanism it over emphasizes 90 mins not the 2700 other mins we were the best team in the country. I dont know what the answer is but the way we go about staying consistent was adding depth and giving young guys a chance thats our whole ethos top to bottom and I know id take the 2014 to now red bulls as opposed to 2004-2013 which was just mind bogglingly stupid, go see how San Jose, Minnesota, Chicago, Colorado run things. They would all give up half their team just for the infrastructure and culture we have here.

Yes I agree like everyone I want Pavon / Pity to come in and tear teams to shreds on our RW but this team and system has given us Adams / Long / Robles / Taxi / Murillo / BWP all guys who would have been over looked on most MLS teams.

From 2016 we have added attacking players MID season

Royer
Gulbranson
Keita
Duka
Ivan

4/5 have not worked out but it shows were willing to add expensive guys. Keita was like 400k+ Ivan 340+ Gulbranson started a Europa League Semifinal after he went back, to the roster once the season gets going.

They will assess what we have and have shown they are willing to spend the $$$.

But why, like another poster mentioned above me, leave it up to chance that the moneyball guys come through in the pressure situations?

Why not demand the club signs a proven star to get them over the hump? Instead of settling for resigning a couple players.

I guess it will work on gaming system web browsers.

But big fail not having it on regular TV or on a network that has an app set up for Apple TV, Roku, Fire stick, Chromecast and all the other streaming devices.

This competition will not grow if it's only available on stuff like Yahoo Sports. People don't want to watch games on their phones on computers, put it on a TV like everything else.

#1339531 Club America wants Kaku

Posted by Grelladinho on 24 January 2019 - 07:19 AM

All his tweeting about leaving/liking stuff is really starting to get on my nerves. Kind of disrespectful to our team and fans IMO. It's one thing to want to leave. It's another thing to be this open about it. We just broke the bank to acquire him, make him our #10, and now he wants to leave after 1 season to go to a club that is only a small step up from us. The least he could do it show some class and be professional about it.

The last tweet is a dead giveaway. A four leaf clover and an eagle (Club America), saying how he is hoping for the last key to open the door? It's ridiculous.

#1339417 Club America wants Kaku

Posted by Grelladinho on 22 January 2019 - 06:04 AM

given the team's scouting network it would be crazy if they were not at least ready with feelers for replacement DPs at all times so agree with this at minimum.  When you acquire appreciating assets/players it only takes one big offer so you have to be ready and the way rules our set up in this league you have to sell.
But like everyone has said if we have a replacement in mind that they are confident they can close deal on this winter you do it.  $750k in GAM could pay for Rza to come back or could be used to trade for someone good (like Alessandrini).

GAM/Rza and Alessandrini with Kaku gone isn't going to guarantee a title though. Alessandrini is the guy you add last season -- the final piece to get the club over the hump. Not as a replacement.

Red Bull should be keeping Kaku AND making a multi-million DP splash this season if they want to win a championship.

#1339163 CM is our biggest issue

Posted by Grelladinho on 16 January 2019 - 06:34 PM

We didn't have Taxi
We didn't have Taxi
We didn't have Taxi.....

Parker and Murillo did way more ball watching than Lade in that 3-0 game. So that argument doesn't make sense.

#1339158 CM is our biggest issue

Posted by Grelladinho on 16 January 2019 - 04:52 PM

I don't see how CM can be the biggest issue when the club went into the postseason last year with the league best defense on an incredible run of form and having an all-star CM in Adams -- AND they still couldn't get it done.

It shows you that no matter how good the defense and your defensive-minded midfielders are, you need to score goals to win titles. Offense is by far the #1 need again and it's not even close.

Unless you can bring in a CM that will score 10+ goals next season, getting a big splash winger or forward to play next to BWP is required and in my opinion more important.
