Here's Joaquin's preview:

They say the crossbar is a goalkeeper’s best friend.  If any of you never believed that, the first leg between Herediano and Los Angeles should have converted you. Mike Magee hit the crossbar for the Galaxy, and Herediano pinged it twice, once on a penalty, to ensure the 0-0 draw. Believe it, Herediano’s Daniel Cambronero and LA’s Carlo Cudicini have a common friend.

Do What You Do Best
Herediano proved why they’re the best team in Costa Rica with the dead ball. Their best opportunities to get the ball past Cudicini came off of set pieces, however, the Galaxy partially through skill and partially through luck, managed to keep them off the score sheet. The Galaxy needs to avoid reckless challenges near the box, and their defense needs to be at their best. Herediano will be desperate to earn free kicks within the range of Ismael Gomez and Elias Aguilar. It will be imperative that LA avoid any contact, however slight, anywhere in the attacking third, because the Costa Ricans will hit the ground.

ATTACK!!!
Allowing Herediano to build up an attack could prove disastrous. The best way for the Galaxy to avoid that is to attack early, often, and relentlessly. It’s no secret that the conditioning of Central American teams is lacking, and LA needs to exploit that. For the first half of the first leg Herediano kept Gomez on the bench, bringing him on at the half. Their goal was simple, hold on, keep the game close, then bring in the big gun and have him take advantage of a tired opponent. This is exactly what the Galaxy need to do, take advantage of a tired opponent. With their superior conditioning, and a week off from league play, LA doesn’t have to rest their top guys to achieve this.

Playing Chicken
This game has the potential to be a classic with the Galaxy capable of sustaining attacking pressure for long portions of the game and Herediano gifted with the speed and skill for some beautiful counter attacking soccer. Unfortunately, it also has to potential to be a game of chicken with both teams approaching the game carefully and trying to avoid any mistakes on the way to another 0-0 draw. If either team takes a second half lead expect some bunker ball, but don’t expect it to last, because bunkering won’t work against either of these teams.

‘Tween the Sticks
The keepers may very well turn out to be the keys to the game. Both looked a little shaky in the first leg, should either team take an early lead they’ll need to shake off the nerves in a hurry, because they’ll see plenty of work. And this time the woodwork may not save them. Cudicini has been to the big games before, but needs to get the rust off from being on Tottenham’s bench. Cambronero needs to find the form that earned him a call up to the Costa Rican national team.

With all to play for in this leg both teams should come out attacking. The first game served as a feeler, so there should be no apprehension about attacking. The Galaxy are more talented and better conditioned, unless Herediano manages to take an early lead, they should be able to wear down Herediano and move onto the semis and a date with Monterrey.

Okay, the Gs for the home leg:

Cudicini; DeLaGarza, Gonzalez, Leonardo, Dunivant; Franklin, Sarvas, Juninho, Magee; Villarreal, Keane

Subs: Perk, Meyer, Garcia, Stephens, Cochrane, Jimenez, McBean.

I'm pleased to see Meyer suited up.  I believe I'd be more pleased to see him on the pitch, however.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMAR!

20 minutes later, Sarvas gets tripped 20 yards from goal and right in front of the ref, who just stands and watches.  Must be a CONCACAF match.

Juninho breathes on a Herediano guy, who falls down.  Yellow to Juninho.

Anyway, a very decent first half, but I have to think our guys will need at least one more goal.

Yeah, like that blast by VILLARREAL in the 69th minute!

Villarreal goes out for Stephens five minutes later.

Garcia in for Juninho in the 80th minute.

KEANE makes it 3-0 three minutes later with a shot from a very narrow angle!

Herediano idiots get one back a couple of minutes after that.  Also, McBean in for Magee.

Whoa - sweet shot by McBean  in stoppage time to put an exclamation point on the proceedings!

4-1 is the final and the aggregate.  Monterrey is next.  Fuck Monterrey.

Well, that ended well.

On to Monterrey. (After the first leg here...)

Villareal's goal was great, but if he hadn't scored, I think Keane would have killed him right there on the pitch.

Moving Magee back and putting Villiareal up front took some time to overcome. And the Keane-Villareal combo was neat to watch develop. The understanding was finally beginning to show after 65 minutes. That pass from Villareal to Keane when he was offside was sweet. Of course, Inglewood then decided to just score himself. Awesome.

I like when we win.

LARS looked isolated.

Apparently concessions lines didn't go well..

I'm very happy we won. I'm even happier we won so convincingly.

I'm extremely happy to see Inglewood get a start and then score a fantastic goal. He plays a very intelligent game, and reads situations really well. I'm disappointed with Keane's apparent lack of patience with him in his first ever start in that position with that striking partnership, but I hope that partnership becomes a regular option because it showed immense promise. Just needs a bit more patience from Robbie and a bit more confidence from José.

CONCACAF refs can go suck donkey dick. I'm tired of the BS.

Who was the kid wearing #32 and what has he done with Jack McBean? Fantastic performance in the time he had on the field.

HDC was stupid last night. Concessions stands were a mess, and 137/138 looked like a desert island in the middle of an ocean of empty seats. PISSED that I was all the way over in 104 behind some once-a-season armchair experts asking each other "I wonder why Beckham isn't playing". Ugg.

Fuck Monterrey. And fuck Chivas.

fuck the ticos, we won.

btw, fuck the galaxians too . . .   fat fucks spent 99% of the time taunting the ticos . . .  then would turn and cheer when we scored.   Boca assholes need to move on and realize their time has come and gone.  Part of me wanted to see a Tico vs 8 Galaxians after the game.

Ha.  When he locks down a half way decent forward, I'll concede that he's improved.

Until then... I'll wait for his eventual suckiness to show itself..

Sarachan said that Leo was born to defend. And, Bruce loves Leo so much that he ordered Juni and Sarvas to stay back and protect him all night. I bet they're still camped in front of his house right now.
