I probably mentioned this before, but with every passing year it just gets harder and harder to view Dane Richards accomplishments with Metro with anything less than admiration. Let it be known, that beyond his smooth lines and notable sucess at making supporters girlfriends swoon....Dane Richards will probably at some point this year move to the top or near the top of several Metro record catagories.

Assuming Dane matches his average totals for the past few years he will become

2nd All Time in Games Played
2nd All Time in Games Started
2nd All Time in Minutes Played
6th All Time in Goals Scored (2nd amoung midfielders)
1st All Time in Assists (would need 11)
5th All Time in Points
1st All Time in Supporter's Ladyfriend Gettin'

Amazing really. He probably has another 3 years or more left in him at least, which means if he stays here he could eventually own almost every major club statistical record (goals probabaly a bit too far off).

I don't always (re: rarely) agree with you, but you're spot on. I used to talk so much shit about him. But the little Jamaican firebrand finally figured out how to do more than just run at the ball. Especially with the overlapping runs from DJ Solli he runs most back lines ragged.

He's been slowly accumulating a spectacular resume.

I think we can all finally admit that JPA was holding him back.

You're not the only one, I can think of many many people that did the same. They wanted him to be Shaun Wright Phillips forgeting that if that were true he wouldn't be with our team. He has always been a quality player here, with limitations. Says a lot about the guy that five years later he is still here and still putting up a great MLS career.

FYI - He was a Bruce Arena draft pick.

It reminds me of Bull Durham, going for the all-time minor league home run record. Just good enough to keep his spot, but not so good to go anywhere else. I most respect his slow but steady improvement in his game from month to month and season to season. Interesting how its defenders who hold all the the longevity honors, and how well he's been able to avoid the injuries that speedy guys so commonly fall to. But he has consistently been a favorite of all but the most fanatic supporters.

You? Nah!

Assuming Dane matches his average totals for the past few years

Trying to jinx him?

I don't know... he seems to play well for Jamaica.

The stats dont lie...I dont see him leaving anytime soon... given this season and even next he should be considered one of our greats. 1st in assists ( overtaking Tab and Amando) and possibly most goals for our midifeld given a couple more seasons. Plus he can have the most appearances ...Id say he makes it.

This is a great thread.

Considering the massive volumes of hate that has been posted about him over the years.

The New York Red Bulls previously kicked around Major League Soccer as the MetroStars with limited success. But after transforming under a new banner in 2005, the Red Bulls have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. The club has made leaps of progress since its previous incarnation and now has its focus on bringing the league title to New York. Thought highly of him when I saw him play at Clemson, but he easily cemented his place in team history that fateful month in November 2008.

He's earned my respect.

PS - Amazing how things change. Couldn't go a day here at what point before people bashed Richards. Now, I can't even remember the last negative Richards post. He's one of the cornerstones of the team. Simple as that.

"Obviously, I want to make a living (in soccer), to say the least," he said. "There's so much you can accomplish in the soccer world, and right now I'm focused on having a good season with the Red Bulls. Ultimately, our goal is to win the MLS Cup, and I see no reason why we can't." - #4 Tyler Adams

I remember hearing all the criticism coming from 103 about Dane and the horror stories, and in the second half 2010 even saw a little of it... but since TH14 joined the team and once he scored thos 1-2 beauties for the Reggae Boys, its like watching a whole different player, even from my limited frame of reference.
