#1367277 Hamlett gets a new boss: Kevin Thelwell, Head of Sport

Posted by Tymatt on 17 July 2020 - 12:14 AM in MetroFanatic.com

This has honestly been a disastrous start. He’s struck out with every signing he’s attempted to make. The uk market is terrible for scouting talent if you’re not willing to pay the ridiculous prices. I’ll believe Yearwood is actually signing for us when I see on the pitch in uniform.

Since we've been looking in the English/UK region for talent I might've identified a Right Back as a target https://www.transfer.../spieler/223263 Darnell Fisher, he's been class since playing for preston and they sit usually mid table each year in the championship so there isn't much ambition for him to move up or down. He's a championship right back that does his job and wouldn't take up a dp spot i wouldn't think. 25 years old

#1359420 Sam Cosgrove (and Lawrence Shankland)

Posted by Tymatt on 17 January 2020 - 10:19 PM in MetroFanatic.com

Watching some highlights on Cosgrove the guy can score and I mean he can score in any sort of way. Sure some of his goals are from the spot but he reminds a lot of Jozy Altidore, has the pace and strength for sure and a target for goal. We really couldn't go wrong giving Cosgrove one of our dp spots. I believe he'll definitely bolster our attacking options this year. I'd love to see Jorgensen or Barlow play off him. His transfermarket might say 570k but if we want to buy him he's going to cost over 2 million dollars and there's a track record of Mcinnes and Aberdeen not liking to sell in the winter months as we saw when GMS was linked to nycfc last winter and didn't come until the summer. I think it'll take Red bulls about 3/3.5 million dollars for a fee and a contract between 500k-1million dollars to get the man. You can't forget Cosgrove was linked to Lazio over the summer. I think this will be really good business from red bulls if we get this deal done. Still a bit to work on we need an outside back preferably on the right side now for depth unless we can count on duncan being healthy for a full season. We also need another cm/cdm in there to compete with the current crop and a winger but that looks to be josh sims thankfully coming back.

#1358708 George Tanner

Posted by Tymatt on 07 January 2020 - 02:43 PM in MetroFanatic.com

So we've had the english pipeline popping up with red bulls lately but you guys have missed one https://www.manchest...milton-17509834 read to the end of this post and also https://twitter.com/...9022888965?s=20 a man utd source has linked George Tanner a right back from Manchester United to New York Red Bulls on a permanent transfer. He's on loan in the english 4th tier league two right now but united would be willing to let him go for free this window as his contract expires in the summer. Multiple championship clubs are also interested in Tanner though.

Edit: Fantastic job guys, I haven't been on here in awhile happy new years everyone :)

#1356065 "There is no Offseason" 2020 Thread

Posted by Tymatt on 23 October 2019 - 11:28 PM in MetroFanatic.com

I think in many ways 2019 was a bad season but to call it a complete failure/wasted season I'm still unsure. We made the playoffs for the 10th straight season. We identified some key role pieces for 2020(duncan, barlow, white, ccj) sure we had some really bad results but we also had some really good ones and even though we didn't break the 50 point mark, we still managed to make the playoffs with a lot of ego's, star players having their minds elsewhere(mexico, europe), a banged up bwp, a regressed defense, and yet we still got there, I would say even Jesse Marsch would've struggled with the team we fielded out there this season, you have to remember DH and CA are marsch guys. Now with that out of the way here's what i would do if I made the decisions with the current roster.

IN: Sporting Director: Denis Hamlett, Manager: Chris Armas GK's: Robles(sure he's getting older but he's got one more year here deserves it), Meara, Louro  Defense: Lawrence, Duncan, Buckmaster, Tarek, Parker  Midfield/Wings: Muyl, Sims(do everything you can to keep), CCJ, Davis, Royer, Omir  Strikers: Jorgensen, White, Barlow

OUT/SELL: GK: NONE Defense: Long, Nealis, Lade(retired), Murillo Midfield/Wings: Etienne, Rza, Koffi, Epps, Mines(sign to usl), Bezecourt, Kaku, Valot, Strikes: BWP

Now with this being said I think we could have a lot of flexibility with our roster if we make these moves. Selling Long, Kaku might solve some of the unsettled rumors we've heard throughout the last year. Trading Murillo for allocation money within mls is the right go, a 2018 allstar who still gives a lot going forward there will be allocation value for him within mls. Valot is too injury prone for my liking and i think his time is up with us, BWP probably its best to part ways, especially if there's any chance we get another striker to pair with our three young guys he'll have to go, Etienne, Nealis, Lade, Koffi, Epps, Mines, Bezecourt are surplus to requirements, I think their time has come to move on, Finally with RZA there's a lot I like with his game and don't like and he did cost 500k cheaper to have this year but I just think there's better options out there and younger options too.

With this being said we will have to bring in new players to the team next year. Here's what our depth chart will look like for now before signing anyone. GK: Robles, Meara, Louro, Left Back/Right Back: Lawrence, Duncan, Buckmaster Center Backs: Parker, Tarek Wingers: Muyl, Omir, Royer, Sims Central Midfielders: Davis, CCJ Strikers: Jorgensen, Barlow, White

I believe we don't need to sign a goalkeeper and the three guys we got right now will fill that spot out nicely next year. At Outside Backs I would like to sign a backup leftback either Yanes/Tolkin from usl. I would like to sign/trade for a young(21-25 years old) but starting quality right back to compete with the injury prone Duncan. At Center Back, I would like to keep Tarek and Parker, sign Roy Boateng or Hassan Ndam(if he's available) and finally sign/trade for a young but talented  3rd CB( also 21 to 25 years old)  that can compete with Tarek and Parker. I think on the wings Royer should start on the left, Muyl and Omir well be depth, Sims(DP or not should still be back) should compete to start on the right and we sign a DP/High TAM/GAM wing to start over or compete to start with one of Sims/Royer or both. The rest of the wings can be filled with homegrowns/draft picks/mls depth/chance players. We next need to buy a replacement for KAKU, this should also either be a DP or High Allocation TAM/GAM player that connects play but also plays the way Armas wants to play. After that moving to 8/6 positions we need to sign a DP or High Allocation TAM/GAM player that can start alongside one of CCJ/Davis, I would prefer this player be an 8 but they could be a 6 too, I would actually like this player to be Stuart Armstrong at Southampton who would definitely require DP dollars(english players overpriced but still are buyable) but I think would fit perfectly in Armas system. We then would need another player that can play both the 6/8 positions but I would prefer this guy be more defensive minded as a 6 on lower/medium TAM/GAM allocation. I'd fill the rest of the CAM/CM/CDM spots with homegrowns/draft picks/mls depth/chance players.  Finally at striker, some people think we need a dp striker but with the system we saw Armas play last year we had plenty of different goalscorers and I think White/Barlow/Jorgensen will do just fine but I would like the last player to be the annual salzburg loanee/signing striker specifically a guy not getting too many minutes with them being named Smail Prevljak, this guy has been buried behind plenty of great young strikers at Salzburg this season but he still has 3 games and a goal to his name. He's just 24 years old came out of the leipzig academy later sold to salzburg and is once capped by bosnia and has scored at a nice rate for salzburg before or when he's gone out on loan in the austrian bundesliga. This guy could break out in mls and I would love to see it happen and is familiar with the red bull style of play/atmosphere of red bull clubs in general.

FInal notes, It's going to be an interesting off season but this would be my off season if I were in charge of Red bull and i think it somewhat fits in the way red bull thinks and plays. My dream/unrealistic/fan like  off season would be far different looking than this but I think these are the holes in the team and what needs tinkering. Also we need to stop blowing leads, and hopefully with the reinforcements we get, we'll be right back contending for all of mls beautiful trophies(not the wooden spoon plz no lol). I took a lot of thoughts into making this post and hope to hear feedback both positive and negative("ARMAS/HAMLETT OUT", "HOW TF COULD YOU WANT THEM BACK" "SPEND MONEY MLS 4.0 5.0 BABY" ETC),. I'm looking forward to ride with you guys into 2020. Thank you for taking the time to view my post for the 2020 off season.

#1355987 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

Posted by Tymatt on 23 October 2019 - 01:59 PM in MetroFanatic.com

I can’t say I’m surprised that Armas and DH are staying. At first last season I was hopeful in the early mid season we would see them be getting the axe at the end of the season heck I even initially campaigned for it but I've gotten smarter these past few months. I’ve taken the positives and the negatives of Chris armas and Denis Hamlett and what their vision of this club is and what they happen to be trying to do. Not a lot of people like what they’re doing. I have understood each move they've made and their reasoning behind it, it's not like these guys don't know soccer. I’ve pretty much accepted that I won’t see this club win an mls cup or us open cup in my lifetime and I’m young unless Red Bull either change the way they conduct business and improvise, adapt, or innovate the mls team or Red Bull sells and we get a fresh new ownership group, name and they bring a jolt of energy into the club and also adapt, improvise or innovate in the mls game. Anyway I’ll be here for the ride next year no matter what, who’s with me?

While Williams is a little bit older, Red Bull has still supplied us with not all young players if you think about it rza isn’t that young compared to our other signings. Yes one signing but it still proves it’s possible. I only brought Williams up because he’s in a position of need and he’s German American which technically means he’s domestic. I could understand why he wouldn’t totally fit the bill though.

This one is going to sound a little odd but since mls clubs will still be able to sign free agents what about the American Danny Williams at cm/cdm? Has plenty of experience playing in the prem, championship and bundesliga. He’s 30 and that doesn’t mean he’s finished he’s still got legs left. I heard dc utd were interested but opted for Felipe instead. Idk just a thought.

#1351043 Young premier league winger = Josh Sims

Posted by Tymatt on 07 August 2019 - 06:39 PM in MetroFanatic.com

I think people don’t understand how this team operates when it comes to signing players. I’ve finally seen the light and have decided to accept it because what choice do we honestly have, I like watching soccer week in and week out and this is my club for the better or worse over all the years. We have a team here who’s shown they’re good enough to be the best over an entire season but on a given night say every playoff run(talking only about the marsch era to now) we come up short due to a lack of difference makers due to there being an unwillingness to spend on the roster. Red Bull’s have always been in the bottom 5 or 6 in mls(during the marsch era to now) when it comes to spending money, this year we’re the 2nd or 3rd lowest in payroll. Face it we are not going to spend much money, sure maybe we’ll have a kaku or one other expensive signing but that’s about it. We have to accept this for what it is, I think this is mostly coming up from Red Bull as a whole as we probably don’t generate enough income for them. I think we also have to accept we’re a double A team to Red Bull global even though we play in a better league than Salzburg(who are the only good in their league and play against a bunch of shit farmer teams) but Salzburg is in Austria and also plays in Europa or champions league by beating all those shitty farm teams each year to finish 1st. I find it funny this is the way it is but it is oh well. I think all we can hope for now is sims for the next three to four months is an upgrade on the right wing and the defense shapes up like the 2018 defense and Brian white and Daniel royer continue scoring goals and we battle through the east to mls cup and hopefully win when we get there. One more thing I find it funny we as fans are more mad about signing a player than potentially getting nothing at all. Be happy Red Bull did something this window I was almost sure they wouldn’t. I also can’t wait for sims to score his first pro goal in our shirt.

#1350960 Young premier league winger = Josh Sims

Posted by Tymatt on 06 August 2019 - 11:54 PM in MetroFanatic.com

When I heard we were getting a prem winger/fullback I thought it would be someone who had never seen a single minute for the first team. This is a good signing/loan if we complete it. I thought we were going empty handed in this window but to know you’re bringing in a guy who’s fantastic at taking on defenders 1v1 one hundred percent a better passer than muyl and Derrick and still has a hell of a right foot despite some finishing problems I’ll take it. People look at goals and assists to define a player, this guy is 22 and while he’s played in like 30+ games in his career he’s still managed to bring in decent shifts and still developing. People are mad Jorgensen isn’t a first teamer but give it time that guy is scoring a heck ton of goals in usl, next year and perhaps the rest of this year with Barlow, white, and Jorgensen scoring goals and sims and kaku supplying them we look like a promising outfit. I know we need to spend more and we’re always a piece away and it’s frustrating, heck I’ve written many frustrated posts but I really think sims is a promising signing. One more thing to the doubters on his goal record, before Josef Martinez or most of the guys in Argentina hadn’t had a lot of goals or any and then they start bursting them in at a staggering rate, I’m just saying keep an open mind. This guy is 22 has 20 prem apps, this isn’t a bad signing at all it’s actually a really good one better than I thought we’d get.

#1349767 Metro - Orlando Game Thread

Incredible result! I was so tired after watching that game. I think the first half we deserved more than a goal but in the second half we eventually fell flat. Incredibly lucky to leave Orlando with a win but it was a must win game and we got 3 road points onto the next one. Also I wonder if this week we hear an announcement on a transfer into the club. I think there’s a good chance we do.

They have had him platoon this year, I’m not sure they’re willing to sell but he tracks back well, has fantastic vision for a right back. I think he costs no more than 500k of allocation money but could be a long term fit at rb for us and he’s young.

I got a player we should try to trade for at right back idk how much allocation it’ll take to get him but Tristan Blackmon the right back at lafc he’s been developing really nicely in his 2nd mls season. I think he might be our answer at right back long term.
