Do teams which do not make the playoffs get extra allocation money from the league?

Fuck it's always tough to see a fan favorite leave like this. To a conference rival no less. Wonder if he saw this coming at all.

Before even going into what this trade means on the field, just gotta reflect and say a big thanks to Dax. It's not always a guy stays with this team for so long and he definitely was a great genuine guy. Will miss him.

BINGO
Great guy great player will be missed.
Sorta understand the move but still sucks right now. Timing for him is personally aeeful.
Thanks and Best of luck Dax

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

I am assuming they have a signing lined up and needed that allocation money to make it.

Agree, and I think there is a lot more changes coming.  With the loaded midfield between the club and RBII and the Basuljevic and Najern news I think they are ready to harvest some midfield talent.  Maybe a not too old DP coming????

I hate to say it, but I wonder if trading Dax is the way to go here. He turns 30 early next season. Sean Davis is ready to take on a bigger role and Tyler Adams can assume the bench role. He has a big cap hit and could be swapped for a healthy dose of Garber Bucks.

I lean towards not doing this, but I think it's something that has to at least be considered and explored.

Called this in November. Shitty reality but this is probably a smart move. At some point room was going to have to be made for Davis and Adams. Might as well do it while you can still get high-end value for Dax. Age plus injuries plus his style of play means things probably would have gone downhill. Sometimes it's best to let a guy go like this when we have nothing but good memories instead of letting things turn uncomfortable and awkward.

That being said, I sure hope they have a specific plan in place for immediately bolstering the team with the money. It's now a month away from an important competitive game and this team is the complete same except for a couple random draftees and no Dax.

This move was going to happen at some point.

Was either going to be this offseason or next offseason. Dax is a quality veteran but RBNY has young, cheaper talent who can do an adequate job. Hard to fully grade this move until we see what is done with the additional cap space.

"Obviously, I want to make a living (in soccer), to say the least," he said. "There's so much you can accomplish in the soccer world, and right now I'm focused on having a good season with the Red Bulls. Ultimately, our goal is to win the MLS Cup, and I see no reason why we can't." - #4 Tyler Adams

That's the thing, you can make this move if you feel that it'll open things up to make the team better. But the timing of the move is awful and only something that RB could pull off. Dude literally just got married. Hopefully the team was open with him and he knew that he was on the market and that this didn't come as a surprise to him.

The timing almost certainly means the something is already cooking that needed us to free up cap space.  I don't think Jesse or RB are that f'd up.

Thanks Captain Dax!  One of the Metro greats.  It sucks seeing the club so ruthlessly part with players like Lloyd and Dax...but where fans have sentiment I'd like to think the club is looking to get max value and make moves that will ultimately win us something more than just the Shield.  I don't view this as Red Bull being cheap, I view it as a club with a plan.

I'm sad for Dax, but I'm not sad from a "this is bad for the team" angle.

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

Dax made a club owned by Red Bull still seem like the one of the people who loved it originally. He loved us, we loved him.

It's the right move as long as Davis plays and the resources are put to good use, but it's still a kick in the ol' dick.

Stunned. Not a fan of this trade (then again, I wasnt a fan of the trade that brought him here)

Really thought we had another year of Dax, before we cashed in and traded him to Orlando for big bucks.

All this GAM money and cap space, sounds nice, but I thought the cap space was already looking  good. Not to mention the additional  TAM(?) money thats available this year.

Dax will play at a high level for a few more seasons before his play starts to decline. Some positions allow for longer careers than others, and I don't think Dax plays one of those. Davis can be an immediate and cheaper replacement than can give immediately at least 75% of what Dax offers I imagine, and can grow with playing time. In a non-cap world, you probably do not make the move this season. You probably keep Dax, continue to give Davis playing time in CCL, USOC, etc and the occasional start for the next 2 years, and then see if he can be the starter. Not the world we live in, and it is what it is. I am curious to see what the money brings us.

Amazingly, this statement is actually one we should all agree with. I really believe there is a plan for continued and sustained success here. Signing aging DPs isn't the way to go anymore. Although, completely neglecting to sign any huge name DPs is probably not the way to go either, and signing players like TFC did is just flat out expensive. This team is about youth development for the long term, and having a more complete team across the board, rather than have studs surrounded by duds.

Chicago's website says the GAM is $200K this year, $200K next year.
