I think of Tyler similar to a young Michael Bradley. He can do it a bit of everything.

I really liked him on the wing last year, but box to box is his thing. He shouldn't be the string puller of this team, but the piece next to that person.

"Obviously, I want to make a living (in soccer), to say the least," he said. "There's so much you can accomplish in the soccer world, and right now I'm focused on having a good season with the Red Bulls. Ultimately, our goal is to win the MLS Cup, and I see no reason why we can't." - #4 Tyler Adams

Metrofanatic: Tyler Adams can carry this team in an attacking role.

Literally Tyler Adams: That's not my best position. Everyone knows that.

Metrofanatic: Quiet Tyler you don't know what you're talking about.

Just because its not Tylers best position, doesnt mean hes not the best we have at that position.

He's a box to box midfielder..

And not too bad... box to box mids are great but and add to the attack but and attack shouldn't rely on a box to box mid...

NYRB need to make additions
I just want Metro to win a title sometime in my lifetime.

Thierry Henry was a winger early on in his career and then turned into one of the most complete and lethal strikers in the world. Same for Cristiano Ronaldo. Bale played as a wingback for years. Already gave the Kljestan example who was a two-way/holding midfielder for Anderlecht/nats and was never the assist king he turned into here at 28+.

In a shocking turn of events, players aren't finished products at 18 or 19.

Great point. All Tyler Adams needs to do is become one of the greatest players in the history of soccer.

He never said that, he is just naming famous players who have started out playing other positions, proving that it can work in some instances.

This new hot take shtick you're trying is failing horribly. If you are going to try that, at least make coherent points instead of acting like people said things they didn't.

ONe thing that I think is important to remember is that one reason why Sacha worked in that advanced role is that he was actually deployed as an advanced destroyer with creative abilities (remember Sacha had spent most of his career as a deep 8, sometimes 6 in some scenarios).  Adams in many ways is more suited to that high press role than Sacha. I don't think Adams has Sacha's proven creative skillset or natural instinct to goal, but if he is deployed in a more advanced role while we wait for Kaku, I guarantee opposing teams will be hoofing the ball upfield a ton.

"Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo switched positions and therefore so can Tyler Adams" is the hot take here.

Nice strawman. I guess an exhaustive list of players of varying abilities who changed positions would be a better illustration of my point?

Most players who change positions successfully do it because they were out of position to begin with, and found a better fit.    That happens when young players are forced into certain roles because they are the best guy on the field at lower levels and teams want them scoring goals or whatever the team needs most, but when they get to a higher level things are different.    Or they are older guys, who lost some pace or switched teams but  have enough talent to adapt to a different role (the TH14/CR7 guys).  Veron is a better example of what usually happens... highly skilled and hardworking, but could only succeed here in a very specific role.    At the highest levels, that is the norm, not the exception.    For RB2, you could probably put Adams at almost any position and he'd be better than good.  For the big leagues, his options are almost certainly far fewer.

Definitely not what happened to TH14/CR7. TH14 struggled as a winger (definitely at Juve) and flourished as a forward at Arsenal through his prime. CR7 was always great but developed into a complete forward in his early/mid-20s while still in top shape. He's become more of a pure goalscorer/poacher in the last year or two as he's aged a bit, but that's not the switch I was referring to.

Agree to disagree on Adams and his best use by NYRB in 2018, and his best role in the future. Probably ends up as a great box-to-box guy like Bradley. Doesn't mean he can't be a great advanced CM/CAM, especially in a high-pressing system like ours.

I was referring to Henry when he came here, dropping into that deeper left side support role.    Anyway, goal scorers, to me, are born, not bred.  Either you have that innate, selfish instinct for goal, or you don't.

This is how I feel about Adams.

Also, I dont think anyone was arguing Tyler is going to knock in 10 goals in 2018, just that, if played in more of an attacking role, hed put up more than the TWO Sacha had in 2017.
