How does this even happen?

They need to get their security act together.

That's totally effed up, and I think our stadium's security does a better job, buuuuuuuuut... ya know that photo of the C-bus "Hooligan" who just decides to "Sit This One Out?" He should never ever been allowed to get anywhere near the Section by our Security, for his own safety, as well as the safety of other (Fire) fans. This incident should serve as a wake-up call, and I hope all teams and the League start taking security matters and measures concerning away/travelling fans far more seriously than they already have been.

Toronto and Columbus need to drop the wannabe hooligan angle. That shit gets old fast.

I really don't believe this but if I were a man of less intellect, who generalized peoples based on limited experience and a sheer desire to, I would say that Columbus fans carry a massive inferiority complex which in turn leads to a persecution complex and I really think there is nothing more eye rollingly bad than a group of soccer fans with a persecution complex. Toronto, on the other hand, feel the need to act in this manner because they carry the flag of Canada and thus get an opportunity to "show those Yanks" how to properly support an "FC" at every given turn, something they are much more inherently blessed to do because they are such a cosmopolitan city, what with the rate of Toronto's foreign born population and all that. A victory for them is a loss for fast food, guns, megachurches, and war in the name of oil, in other words, institutions and beliefs that all Americans, from the Aleutians to the Everglades, fiercely believe in.

Put these two sets of fans together and you have a prime recipe for a whole lot of nothing going on, unless you are the unfortunate members of Columbus security or law enforcement, or the guy who gets to fly the helicopter, who after an idle 96-07 is almost working overtime at this rate.

So yes, I really don't believe any of that and simply chalk it up to what happens when you have a lot of folks "on the bevvy at the football", but when I allow myself to romanticize things a bit I see no match more perfect than Columbus v. Toronto in today's M.L. Soccer.

How dare you say nice things about Toronto.

I interned in the FO for a little while and trust me they are so dumb had they payed off the refs they probably would have presented them one of those huge checks during halftime on the field.

Angels fan killed in fight after game. But the media exploits small scuffles at a soccer match.

I read about the TFC/Cbus scuffle here and from Canuck sources.

Angels story is all over the American media.

No exploitation in my book.

Opposite on my end. But as an aside, I think that soccer will always be associated in a lot of Americans' minds with fan violence, especially the English fans.
